Death Threats on LIVE

I dont think anyone on xbox knows how many complaints need to be filed for something to happen, but supposedly it's like 50. that was somehting thrown out while i was playing. but those death threats cant be taken seriously. those people are idiots.eddy5791

I agree, but think about the repercussions if one WAS serious and MS did nothing about it. That's a pretty scary prospect.

Has anyone else noticed the obscene amount of death threats that are tossed around on LIVE? I never used to hear them but now I seem to hear at least one instance of "I'm going to hack your account and come kill you" every time I play (they aren't directed at me but I do hear them). Who threatens someone's life and family over the internet because of a game? And it doesn't really seem like MS has much of a system in place to deal with it because a buddy of mine filed like 5 complaints and called LIVE and STILL continued recieving threats for several weeks. Does anyone else find this disturbing/disgusting?sixgears2

Serious threats on XBL have been taken care of before but NOT thru MS, it needs to be reported to your local police and or local FBI office. Just give the perp's gamertag and law enforcement will run thru MS' servers, etc., etc.

I have never in my life "vented" by threatening someone's life or family. And if you have you should seek counselling tomorrow.

Yeah, I believe these death threats are just an unhealthy way to vent their frustration and anger. Believe it or not, some people play to win, not for fun. When things get so serious as to threaten to take someone's life away, thats where the line should be drawn and immediate action should be taken upon the angry gamer.

You know, those little faces you squeeze in your hand work miracles. Definitely consider picking one up if you get angry at video games. Throwing your controller at a pillow is all ways nice too.

If someone sends you a nasty message you can just block communications from them and that's the end of it. If someone is giving you a hard time in a game you can mute them and if you are the party leader you can kick them and ban them. Most times the person on the other end threatening you is 14 years old and probably 5 foot nothing and 100 pounds soaking wet. Hardly anything to worry about. No one will come get you and they couldn't even if they tried unless you give them your address.

i only hand out death threats to people i have played with before and only if they are on my friends list. They know im kidding, like we were playing a private COD4 map yesterday and i kept getting knifed, so i said if he knifed me once more i would drive to his house and knife him, and pour lemon juice in the wound, and then rub salt in it. Hes one of my best friends in real life, and i have known him for 5+ years. But i wouldnt say that in a room with random crazy people in itpageiszepplin

Yeah, it is pretty funny that all it takes to set them off is to get a couple kills on them. Then magically it's all about "your mom" and we are automatically gay among other things. But those are usually the most common starters and then they go from there.

There are some sad, deranged people on LIVE, we just gotta deal with it I guess. I'd only get worried if the guy sounded serious. Like if he just casually tossed out your IP and your address and your real name or something like that, THEN I'd get really scared. Because if some stranger could actually obtain personal information like that, then yeah, there's a real possibility that he really could come over and kill you.

But don't worry, that's incredibly unlikely. In fact, try asking for that next time someone threatens you like that. If he says, "I hacked you! Hahaha I'm gonna come over to your house and kill you and your family," just ask him, "really. So where do I live then? What's my real name?" I guarantee you, the guy won't know. And like I said, if he DOES know, call the police immediately (and lock your doors).

And besides, people who have the neccessary intelligence to hack a 360 are smart enough to know that murder isn't an easy crime to get away with. Not to mention smart people in general don't tend to make statements quite as stupid as those. And when they do, they don't mean it. People who say things like that and actually mean it, on the other hand, are not smart enough to know how to actually do it (thank God).

My address on file with Microsoft is fake and I use 12 month cards to pay for XBOX Live now. It's pretty funny that this whole issue came up on the forums as I was playing COD4 last night and one my real life friends was playing with me for the first time since I moved in December. He asked where I was living now and I just said "from an undisclosed location". We all busted out laughing.
