Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of buzz on this game, so I have to ask, who's playing? And, as the topic asks, what are your thoughts on the game? I've been playing it quite a lot over the past few days, and I am coming away fairly impressed. I didn't have to deal with all the initial first few days of startup issues, so my experience hasn't been tainted by it. So technical problems aside, as I haven't seen them, here are my thoughts so far. The game is FUN. And for me, that's what matters the most. It plays well, graphics are good given the scope of the game and what's going on at any one time, and more than anything else, the gunplay is satisfying. The world seems to be well populated. I know a lot has been said about the 360 being region locked... oh well. I turn it on, my world is well populated, that's all I care about. So I'm not facing off against people around the world, no big deal to me. All my xbox live friends happen to fall in North America. So it's fun, and it plays well... pretty descriptive huh? Lets break it down a little more: The world is large, and the missions are well varied between static, selectable missions (story, episode, side and other), as well as random "world occurrences". These events are often based around saving a group of soldiers, destroying a hellbug nest, etc. But one thing that must be remembered is this is an MMO, and not an MMORPG. All quests in this game break down to combat. Kill this, kill that, and so on and so forth. To be honest, most times that I am playing this game, it feels like an open world version of Earth Defense Force. Being a ridiculously HUGE fan of that game, this is definitely a plus in my book. It feels like the best bughunts from that game, with hundreds of other people jumping into the fray at the same time. So overall, I like it. The tie-in to the show is a superfluous gimmick at best, and the show sucks anyway, so take this game on it's own merits. I can understand why people don't like it, but I'm much more willing to side with those who do like it ;)

Haven't heard any buzz about this game neither. I am just waiting to gain more research on it and maybe a price drop. Seems a bit risky to buy right now.

Most of the stuff I have heard about it is the normal MMO woes. Glitchty start and servers having issues. As for the game I have heard positive things about it. I am wanting to play it myself, but waiting for a sale.

Show's just going to be cancelled after a single season, I just can't see the game having an active community for very long.

^ But that's the thing. The game, I think, will and should live without the show. The two have little in common, and don't even feel like they're from the same world. So the developers should take the license and run with it, but build off of it to create something that has absolutely no reliance on the life or death of the show. I hope people will take the game for what it is, and at least try it out. I can't understate how much fun I'm having with it so far, and if nothing else, I'd love to see the platform evolve into something bigger.

I think you are counting the show out to quick. Heck there is a news article on Gamespot stating the Pilot had 2.3 million viewers. And to answer the above comment I think the game takes place in San Fransico and the show takes place in St Louis. The game will have tie ins with the show, say if a character from the show travels to San Fran or something like that.... Not really sure dont have the game just been reading about it.

From playing the game, and watching the show, the tie-ins are minimal, short of seeing some familiar faces and hearing some familiar names. The two don't gel in any way more than saying they're both from the "Defiance Universe". That's where I hope the game license strays from the show license and they are able to continue with their own spin on the universe. Add enemy types, build on what's there, increase party options, maybe add more RPG-lite elements to the mix (greater character customization for instance). I think it's a great canvass so far, but there is a lot of room to add.

No one can really make a decision on whether or not they'll be playing this game at this point from what I've seen.

I'm actually enjoying the game. Don't get me wrong it's hardly a looker, some sever issues and even though it's its an MMO there doesn't seem to be the whole community hubs other MMo's seem to have...

But as i have said for some strange reason I can forgive all these (and a couple more) things that are wrong with it. Once you get your head around it it's actually quite a compelling little game that encourages you to play more by, well for me anyway, pushing the right buttons

It seems thats spot on with Gamespots review. They even stated the game was buggy, but a blast to play.

@anabub Took the words completely out of my mouth. Compelling is a good way to put it, and I'm not even sure why. Now at EGO level 198, and starting to get some great weapons... Hell, I even just bought my first new vehicle! Heh. There is something so compelling about destroying an arkfall event, and then joining a group of random strangers in an all out race to the next one. Something is so hilarious and ridiculously alluring, seeing all of those vehicles materialize and everyone shoots off into the sunset. I'm going to change my initial statements. After sinking more time into Defiance, the game really holds up despite it's obvious flaws. I am enjoying it more and more as I play. So my last plea to anyone who is on the fence and stumbles on this topic. Get the game. Play it. Avoid reviews, and base your own opinion. Some of the negative reviews were written during launch when the game was a broken mess. So read with caution!

I know critic reviews don't matter much, but the game has a 57 on Metacritic and I've heard the graphics are incredibly muddled (not surprised considering it's a console MMO). It looks like a hell lot of fun, but I'll wait for a price drop.

SciFi has ALREADY picked up the second season. I'll tell you what I know about the game. It's a fun open world that keeps expanding with your progress, very sandbox like in it's approach towards missions and traveling along the road encounters. Ark falls which are like server events attract new players because of the XP and loot drops, but as you lvl up you'll look to them less for the things that you need. And what you will need is a constant and steady stream of NEW weapons and mods to keep your character in tip top shape. Arkfalls draw huge crowds and are known for two things, BIG boss battles and HEAVY lag. That's why I stay away from them. Vehicles come on pretty fast so you won't be hoofing it for very long, and if you can learn to relax your left thumb your driving will improve quickly. The peak hours are probably the best time to play with randoms. You don't have to worry about every being griefed........most of the time. Just watch the grenade tosses, splash damage from explosions can put other Ark Hunters on their backs, and you're going to NEED those people when mini-bosses show up. The enemies in this game take no prisoners. So if someone is good enough to revive you, be kind and return the courtesy so you can both get back to work.. The game could certainly use a slight improvement in customizations and some enemy factions are very cheap. Like shooting through walls and cover kind of cheap, but it shouldn't be anything a few friends wouldn't be able to handle. So make some if you can't convince anyone on your list to join you. When you have your friends playing with you it can be entertainingly hilarious, but MONSTROUSLY difficult (I'm lvl 620 with a 520 pwr rating) if you're trying to go at it alone. Overall I would recommend it if you like MMOs and sandbox gameplay mechanics. AND if you get your friends to play with you on off-peak hours when things get a little quiet.
