I own both. I have played more hours of Destiny than MCC (mainly because I already played many of the campaigns and I'm the type of guy who rarely goes through a campaign more than once.) Here's what I'll say for both:
Destiny- a complete grindfest. This is the only reason I've even put a lot of hours into (actually, I had put destiny down for many months and picked it back up a month ago.) Destiny gives you the "thrill" of getting new weapons and gear. It's also got raids going for it, which is something that long time console only gamers have never experienced. Do not get it. You'll invest a lot of time into it and feel empty in the end. Thankfully, I downloaded the game from my friends account and paid for both current dlcs for about $26. I will say that destiny has a somewhat great community, because we all know Bungie won't help anyone matchmake for raids. I also avoid PVP, I don't like it too much.
MCC- currently, it's amazing. Great stories and great multiplayer. An insane amount of replay value, especially if you have played any of the halo campaigns. Get the MCC, seriously. 4 high scoring games with a pretty active community and an active and helpful developer. You won't regret your purchase.
