4 million games x 80 bucks each... yep...mariomusicmakerIn my crystal ball I see somebody being a smatass. They will say "Blah blah blah your wrong. I remember my copy being $60"
With a campaign that short, a subsequent PC release and a mysteriously 'confirmed' trilogy right after they hit the 3 million sales mark, i'd say yes it made a helluva profit.
Now the sequels will make even more because they'll take less effort to make. And just like movies, rather than being open ended like the first movie, it will be a complete cliffhanger. I guarantee it, Marcus Pheonix will be hanging over a volcano or something while Dom is fighting a Brumak or whatever and then CREDITS, See ya next time suckers!
Trilogies suck these days, its all about profit, the 2nd part of a trilogy is always the most god aweful piece of crud you ever did see, and the same will probably be true of Gears.
LOL - this actually gave me a chuckle. :)
As others pointed out there is a GeOW 2 coming and talk of a movie since the game was so profitable.
So here's the deal in statistical actual money format for you with links to back it up...
GeOW cost between $9m and $10m to make:

There were over 2 million copies sold within the first 6 weeks (as of Dec 2006):

SO...
2 million copies at $60 each (or the equivelant thereof depending on your country) = $120 million!
So $120 million minus the $10 million production costs is = $110 million in the first 6 weeks after launch and that's not counting any sales in the last year and a half.
So yeah I'd say it made just a little bit of a profit.

Ok - well what MS paid the developer is technically "profit" as well then - because that's just the developer getting paid for the rights.
So that would mean that the first 6 weeks of profit were at $160 million - and that doesn't account for the last year and a half of sales.
:)
