I just bought a new surround sound system the other day and the receiver has an input for the Digital Optical Audio which i know you can use with the 360. I was thinking about going and buying the cables because as of right now i just have the 360 hooked up to my receiver via the Red and White cables. I'm just curious, for those of you that have used both for the audio, can you actually hear a difference in quality between the Digital Audio and the Analog?

If you have an okay system or better you'll be able to hear the difference.

Yes you can really tell the difference, especially if you have a good receiver. Monoprice.com has cheap optical cables. They ship quick too.

Monoprice is definitely the best place to get inexpensive cables. I have bought several things from them and been very happy.

Deffinatly get it. Without it or a hdmi receiver, you can't get dolby/dts 5.1 audio out of it. Look around, and you can find optical cables for 10$. Though, they really aren't the cheapest things around

- YES! You will hear the difference. Honestly your Home audio system is going to waste without the optical cable.

You can't have surround sound if you don't use the optical cable.

well it's not true 5.1, you can get good surround sound if you're system supports dolby prologic II.  i use it that way only because my roomates reciever is kinda old and the audio lags through the optical port.
