So after getting home today i decided i'd sit down and have a nice hour or so playing New Vegas, after inserting the disc into the disc drive my xbox spat it back out, "WTF" i thought to myself so i pressed the button again and it spat it self out again, at this point i was getting worried. I tried a third time, this time it stayed in the console but didnt read properly and thought it was a DVD disc, so i ejected it again. I tried a forth time, it spat itself back out again, i tried a fifth time it read as a DVD again, i tried a sixth time but this time it didnt read as anything it just simply said 'open tray'. The SEVENTH time i tried it read the disc as a game and it started up, i was pretty frustrated at this point and just wanted to sit back and relax but NO! the disc drive stoped working ( i assume ) it didnt spit the disc out it just went into a black screen and the power icon on the console started flashing.

Its a bit of a long read i know, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

P.S i've looked around a bit andcouldnt find anything on this issue, so please dont tell me to look first, cause i have.

Yeah i've tried Halo Reach and Divinty 2 DKS since then, and while they didnt take as nearly as much tries as New Vegas, it was still happening. Plus they havnt stopped working during play ( yet ) could that have comething to do with them being installed on my HDD?

You're screwed. Only way to get it fixed is to send to Microsoft. Is your 360 still under warranty?

This happened to my cousin's 360 twice and because of that he now installs all games he plays regularly.

Man, I feel for you. I know the feeling exactly, this happened to me once before. Since it's no longer under warranty, you can try to replace the drive, so long as you have the technical know-how to do it. This video can help you, it's the one I used to fix mine.

But do take caution, only replace the drive if you're sure it's out of warranty. Chances are, if your Xbox can run streaming content or content that is saved on your hardrive, like an aracde game, then you can rest assured and know that you DVD Drive is the only problem and replacing it should work.

Also, when I replaced mine, the Xbox worked fine and read games and DVDs like normal, but only for a few months. Eventually, I had to replace the whole system because I didn't know what else the problem was after it started doing the same stuff the second time.

Good luck. There's plenty of videos on YouTube that can help you like the one I posted.

well my disc drive did that yesterday a few times but i watched a youtube video and found out its the dirt and dust causing the problem ,, there could be dirt and dust blocking where the thing goes out and in ,

causing the 360 to think your pressin the button twice, /getting stuck

if you cant get it working by cleaning it gently with a q tip , or dont wanna take the chance send it to ms if you got warranty if not ---eh pay 100 or what ever or just get a new xbox 360
