Has anyone seen this before?

It all started whilst I was playing GTA when I heard a strange buzzing sound coming out of the machine. Next thing you know, there's a nasty circular scratch on the CD.

Since then, the disk tray has refused to stay close (even when the Xbox is off!) meaning I can't play any of my games! It closes for a second but then pops back out again!

And by the way 2 weeks before this incident, my Xbox cracked 2 of my games.

So what do you guys think I should do? Is there any way I can fix this issue myself or am I going to have to send this junk for repair once again?

Any help would be much appreciated.:D

Send it for repair. I'm about 90% positive that ms will only make you pay shipping.

Hm, my disc tray opens up during the middle of gameplay sometimes, but the games arent scratched. But then i just close the tray and go back to playing.

There was a proven defect in some XBOX 360's google it and you can probably find the class action law suit that was filed against Microsoft. You should be able to get it repaired or something for free.

Boss_2, I've had exactly the same problem as you. It was with my 1st 360. I only had it for a week when that started happening. The only way I could close it was to shut it off when the drive was closed. I can't remeber if I actually had to pull the power cable to shut it.
It's a disk drive failiure. Ship it and close the drive with the above way. : /

That's too much of a bother for me just to play a game. I think I'm better off sending it in for repair. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah that`s happened to me. Only I try to put in a game and I press the button to close it and it doesn`t close, sometimes I have to force it to close. None of my discs have been scratched, though.

The problem I always have is getting the disc tray to open. Every now and then I have to push it in and to the right to get it to open.

If they charge you $100 or more to get it fixed or dont want to buy a new one

You can always just buy replacement DVD-ROM for around $69.95

very easy fix...
