I hope this is where I can post this and I won't get into trouble but here it goes. I'm a big fan of halo 3 and today I decided to look over their forums once again after being absent from them for about a year now. I saw a post about second accounts and decided to look. The post was simple, a player was upset over the fact that very high rank players go and make 2nd accounts and completely own lower level players. He was upset because he didn't see that it was fair to new players to the game and it was an easy "50".

As I scolled down the responses, I saw where one of Halo's employees, (No names to protect the innocent) responded. He said very shortly that its perfectly legit and what people do with their money is their own. Then he said something else that disturbed me. He told the poster to quit complaining and either learn to play better or quit and that new players that are getting destroyed by second accounters should do the same. and also this was backed by many players responses

Now why would a company say that to someone who purchased their product, gave them money, and is trying to enjoy THEIR game, is that not chasing off loyal customers and doesnt that cost money? just liked to see what you guys thought about this.

I find it to be very poor sportsmanship to make a 2nd account and pick on novice players. It put those type of people on the same level as those who enjoy beating a 5-year-old at basketball. They are essentially ruining another person's enjoyment of the game.

and im with you a 100%. my problem is that bungie basicly says, "hey tough luck UT_wrestler, they can do what they want, if you dont like it, get better or get out" (using you as an example) thats my problem im having, it just seems the whole game, the whole place is built around being unsportsman in a way

What are they supposed to say? We're not going to let someone use the product that they bought in the way they want? It was a bad way to say it but those are you're only options really. You can get better, deal with it(which he didn't mention), or quit. Yes it's poor sportsmanship but they bought the product, nowhere in their online terms does it say they can't do that. Once again, while I DO NOT agree with the way he said it, the Bungie employee is completely correct.

Maybe you should just do what they say and play a different game, maybe MW2 or even a co-op game like Borderlands. They shouldn't condone this kind of thing but they probably don't want to anger their loyal fans.

Why must people complain so greatly about such trivial matters? Besides, if the newbies constantly play with the pros, the newbs will improve until their skill reaches equilibrium with that of the pros.

Just ive been going through some of bungies forums where players had problems or questions etc and bungie employees responded with very crass, unprofessional remarks basicly telling ppl get better or get out, which i think they should reword and make it sound alot better

Are there really that many good Halo 3 players whom enjoy playing against people they know will be no contest against them? Not sure how everyone else thinks, but the entire reason for me to play online is for the competitiion. There really is nothing that can be done for those new players, except for the hope that these high ranked individuals suddenly realize that slaughtering new players is just the same as slaughtering AI in single player & the fact that they do it makes them look like cowards.

BS. Playing against pros is not a good way to get into any competitive activity. Do I really have to explain this?

what the heck is bungie suppose to do about this. theres no way to regulate this. its nonsense to even bring it up. people have a right to have several accounts. eventually these upper level players will rank up to there level. with experience and playing with vets you will eventually get better.

Second accounts are ridiculous. I myself am good enough that when multiple people are playing I rarely end up getting beat by much. But there are times when myself and a group will score maybe 8 frags and someone has 25 to win it all. It's a little ridiculous and there's no point to it. On the other hand, it doesn't bother me because I play for fun and like the developer said, if he really did say that, what people do with their time and money is their own business.

Exactly, if vets want to become cowards & make second accounts to play with rookies they are entitled to do so since they bought the game.

There are many things in life that disturb me...but cheating and poor sportsmanship in Halo 3 is certainly not one of them.

I don't see the problem with it. I'd never do it but if someone else wants to and it isn't against the rules, who am I to say they can't? Who cares if someone quickly reaches level 50? Who cares if new players get beat? You don't win every game you play. I lose a lot more than I win.

Okay dude, playing videogames against other people is competitive activity. This "rebuttal" of yours here makes less sense than your original statement. However, so there's absolutely no confusion, let me reword my statement: "Bull****. Playing against pros is not a good way to introduce oneself to an online videogame."

I hate the ranking system and I hate matchmaking, so I really so no problem with what the players are doing. If they have other Live accounts and want to use them why and how would Bungie stop them?

I don't think that what those players are doing really matters because they can't do it forever they eventually level up anyway and get put back with player of their own skill level. Owning people that aren't as good as you is fun and satisfying but it gets old quickly when you can blaze though a match without dying. What disturbs me is the response that you got from Bungie. They should be looking for ways to enhance enjoyment not promote the owning of newbies.

Do you know for sure it was a Bungie employee? If it was on a GameSpot forum and the user claimed to be from Bungie I wouldn't trust that so much.. The issue is annoying however. I myself am not a super high level in Halo 3 so it's annoying getting into a game and being owned by the same person 50 times over and over. It's clear that those people are higher skilled players.. so then why are they playing with me in matchmaking? It's a ridiculous concept..

it was a forum ninja with orange lettering on Bungie.net's forums, not on here lol. but i agree with you also, im quite happy with my level 40. however im constantly seeing second acounts owning me, sure fire way to tell if there second account of course is look at there level vs ranked XP, usually its all to perfect

this argument is ridiculous by the way because its not like your going to come across a higher level player (50) in matchmaking constantly. it happens seldomly at random times. not enough to get mad over

Are you certain that it was a Bungie employee? I've seen Bungie employees respond to people many times before and that definitely doesn't sound like one. They have always responded without getting defensive, and they also recommend that no one should quit...no matter how badly you're getting beat. So I have a hard time believing that this was even a Bungie employee....do you have a link?

What Bungie should have done is just keep their mouths shut. What do they get out of telling people that bad sportsmanship is ok. What good company in their right mind would tell their customers to go play something else if you're not good at it. They should be catering to their fans. I wouldn't expect anything less from Bungie though. They are a terrible company and their cockiness and attitude is getting worse and worse. This isn't the first time I've read about their snooty remarks to consumers. They have no reason to change though since they have so many followers that will buy anything they put out and defend anything they say. Its sad that they would abuse their community like that.

I'd have to agree. Some players, once they reached the top, create another account in order to start all over again just for the heck of it. Of course, they start at zero because...well where else would they start? All i can say is that you'll just have to compromise. It happens in every game with competitive gaming.

TBH someone making a second account just to own low ranked players is a test of Bungie's/Microsofts TruSkill system. If the system put in place to balance the game is working correctly then he should only be able to do this for a matter of a few games, otherwise Bungie's system is broken and that guy is a sad person for getting joy out of what he is doing.

^This. I like Halo but a large percentile of the people playing are complete A-holes. Thats not to say that there aren't some cool people in the Halo community but they are few and far between.
