DLC Pricing Laughable

It baffles me how much we spend on downloadable content. There's pretty much a price to everything from themes to gamer pics and even 2 minute long music videos. I mean really, come on. Why should I pay 30 dollars for some stupid expansion when I can buy it AND oblivion for cheaper than that at the store? What about 2-3 maps that were already on the disc (Gears of War 2) for $10 Even more, we should be able to download games from the Marketplace, considering the amount of space they actually take up. This would save us all tons of time and gas by being able to charge it to our credit (and debit?) card.

Does anybody else find this pricing laughable, especially in this economy, or is it just me?

I found what the developers of Tales of vesperia was trying to sell us laughable.. Though i see "Buy the better gear" dlc to be more common. I only buy things that are worth it and if i don't think it is i could careless because i wont waste my money on it.

Some is with it I think, like LaD, but others are just pathetic. $10 for 3 maps is horrible, or for some POS DLC on an island that can't get its weather right.

Capcom really upset me with the alternate costumes for SF4. I try not to buy any dlc thats not an actual expansion,but I do buy Rockband songs once in a while.

I only buy campaign add ons and sometimes map packs. No gamerpicture, themes or videos for me. That's a complete waste. Especially themes. No one sees your theme but you. I hate thos DLCs that are like "better guns" and "costume packs". Those are lame and should have been included.

I agree. The DLC is pathetic with themes and gamer pics especially because you can't preview them! I've gotten stuck paying 250 MS points for some themes I don't even like. Microshafted again.jb0Ogi3

They only do it because they know stupid people will buy it. Personally, I don't care. I'm not being forced to buy anything.

Some of the stuff is ridiculously over priced, though. The most recent thing I bought was the Prince of Persia Epilogue, and it defintely was not worth $10 I beat it in an hour and a half. I was curious to what happened in the story, though.

At first I was thinking the only company I could rely on to give us reasonably priced DLC was Bethesda (most of the things were awesome deals). Considering they charged $10 for Operation Anchorage and it'll be another $10 for the Pitt, I'm getting a little worried.

DLC really needs to fall in price as the game ages. Oblivion is an excellent example of this - even if you think the DLC is worth it at the price on Marketplace, the fact remains you can buy the GOTY edition with all the DLC for less than just the DLC from Live. As for developers that just cut content out to sell it later - if you don't like them doing it, then don't buy it. themes and gamer pictures are laughable. u can't see what they look like and they are just stupid to sell them. i don't buy any of them but they call content like that. it is a waist of money to buy that stuff. i do hate buying content a lot of that kind of stuff are waist of money. iam2green

Yeah I fully understand what you mean.. I do think that downloadable content having a price is kidna stupid.. I mean c'mon now we bought the game, and pay for live.. we should at least get free content, Unless you would only have to pay for XBL ONCE.. then I would not mind paying at all for MS points

I don't mind it. I am selective with what I buy and I realize that everything is optional, so I really don't care what the developers do in terms of pricing. If it's too expensive then I don't get the DLC, simple as that.

Yeah because giving stuff away is a good buisness model, Microsoft is a buisness, not a charity.

I guess it depends on your economic situation, but I'm not exactly riding the money train and I find the prices for DLC permissable since I make enough (working at Krogers mind you) to pay for what I want, which is usually Rock Band DLC.

hate to be the one to break it to you but yeah, when has 3 maps taken up 80 MBs of space. There are 1-2 minute long videos that take up more space than that silly thing. It's all a scam, even the new ones coming out were supposed to be on the disc. Come on, man. It's easier for companies to spend the money all at once than to do it later. The only company that doesn't is Bungie. Come on, 80 MBs of space. That, sir, is laughable.

DLC has unfortunately given the rise for game companies to exclude items that are ready at the time of the game's release and purposely release it separately for more cash.

Personally, I don't like Capcom not adding the Versus mode. To those who say, "OMG, its 5 dollars, get a job." Fine, you pay "only 5 dollars" now. But once Capcom knows you're willing to pay money for that, they're just going to keep taking it farther and farther until one day the following scenario may be possible: "Buy our game but if you want to play past Chapter 1, download our DLC chapters, the boss battle at the end costs double!"

You give them an inch, they'll take a mile...

I purchase maps for shooters like CoD4 and Gears2, expansion packs like GTA IV: L&D, but the alt clothes in Street Fighter IV, not for me... I have 450MP and the alt clothing packs are 320mp each, when they should be more like 100mp or 250mp at most. I don't bother with the themes because I'm busy playing games, who is seriously staring at wallpapers on their dashboard(with the NXE half the wallpaper is cut-off which makes it even worse)?

Outpost Kaloki has been out for 4 years and the game is still 800 MPS. I find that outrageous...Pittfan666

i dont buy the dumb crap they have for sale, like pics and themes

but i get kinds mad when there are little additions to games that could have been included for 10 dollars

skate 2 is ok, cuz each pack is 400mp, but with the Lost and Damned, the only reason i havent picked it up yet is cuz its 20 dollars

i can get Burnout Paradise for 20 dollars, same with PGR 4...so im really still undecided as to whether or not to get MS points for it

Why yes I will pay the $5.00 since it is a miniscule amount compared to anything else I pay for in this life such as my car note, but I highly doubt your proposed "future" of gaming will ever come about seeing how illogical that would be from a business standpoint given the current distaste for DLC as it is now.

If it looks crap then I wont buy it simple as. I vote with my wallet.
