For my money, Assasins Creed was a fantastic buy. It had something which truly gripped my attention, and that was the ability to fight multiple enemies with a far more fluidic nature,... which so many games up until this have desperartely failed to captiure and execute.
Yes, this is just one element, but along with the incredible graphics, it gave the game a momentum which I beleive was instrumental in its success. Its by no means perfect, ( I was occasionally disturbed there was some pop up, and the frame rate juddered ever so slightly in certain areas), but, in my opinion, to purely criticise this game for being repetitive is missing the whole point of the structure that the developers strived to achieve.
The point of spy, hide and assasination is that it is in essence a repetitive task. You could lay the same criticisms on any of the MGS, COD or, indeed, DMC titles. Yes, the narrative structure and the variety and design of gameplay elements can be altered to be more varied, thats true,..... but how many ways do you want to assasinate a templar???! And surely if you are laying blame that this is just all there is to the game,.... well,... what else do you want to do,.. bake cookies for them???8)
Assasins Creed achieved what it set out to do admirably, in my opinion.
