My 360 is about a year old, iv'e had no problems with it.  But out of like 6 of my friends who bought them around the time I did like 3 have got the 3 red lights.  So im a little edgey.  Is there a easy way to keep these things cool? or if I heavn't had a problem in a year does that mean I probably wont?? im just curious if I should get the Nyko thing or try to do a home made mod to cool it.  I heard the Nyko thing keeps the 360 cooler but obstructs airway, so I dont know if that thing is a help or not.

I use a laptop cooler and it works to some point. I have not have a game crash on me and the 360 crashing is because of heat, or a bad disk.

They end up hurting the 360. They use its energy to keep it cool which is not good. Just keep the Xbox 360 is a well ventalated area.

As long as you get the ones that plug straight into an outlet, then they work well. DO NOT AT ANY POINT get one that plugs into the 360, they kill it.

Or you can do what my buddy did, use a mini bar fridge.

Get a fan that uses a AC power cord instead of the direct 360 power. the problem with direct feeds, are that they steal power from the 360 and that power house needs all the power it can get. and plug your 360 power cord directly in the wall jack and no through a power serge protector. because even this will make the 360 go hayWIRE>>

This is what I do and it has worked for me. I have a laptop cooler and I also use an external fan. One of those cheap clip on fans from walmart. I place the fan behind the 360 and I invert the fan. Instead of blowing on to the 360 it blows away. This allows the fan to blow the hot air out of the 360. This method has worked pretty well for me. I bought my premium on april of 06 and it still works great. I've had no problems with it.

stay away from the nyko intercooler  because it melts (literally) and fuses to your xbox 360 it also takes the power from the console cord which gives your xbox the ring of death.

The Laptop cooler sounds like it would work good because it cools the bottom of the 360 which gets super hot. And im GUESSING it is not going to get in the way of any hot air blowing out of the 360, dont want to push that back in.  The only one we have at work plugs in with USB, I dont think that would work with the 360 would it? what kind do you have?

I've heard the Intercoolers aren't that great for your system.  I do use a fan stand that plugs into the wall and sometimes, it seems like it's the only thing keeping my 360 from freezing up from overheating.  I don't have my 360 in an ideal spot to keep cool as I'm a bit limited with my setup.  From what I heard, just keeping the 360 out in open with plenty of access to cool air is enough.

I saw an external water cooling system for the 360. It was a pretty ugly looking thing but would ofcourse have been silent and have provided better cooling but I didn't wanna void the warrenty and can't remmember where I saw it. I also I was a little worried about getting banned from XBL since I didn't know if they could pick up on it from the fan headers being disconnected.

I have a small fan pointing at the 360. I also have it on a type of netting shelf, so that it "breaths" from underneath. No problems so far.

DO NOT get one, it's the biggest waste of money, I bought one, yes it's stupid but I thought it would help since my 360 felt hot most of the time and didnt have 1 m of space all around. After a few weeks I decided to research the coolers and found out they're horrible so I took it off. A few days of playing I found out my 360 was a lot hotter than usual so i put it back in. This process happened maybe 2 to 3 times after 2 to 3 weeks and 2 weeks ago after taking it out for good because I found out it voids the warrenty i got the 3 red lights out of the blue and I rarely play xbox only when I have time. Luckily I went to eb games and traded it in since I got the warrenty and there were no marks proving I had a cooler so I got lucky 8) I'm guessing the internal fans turned off since my 360 was a lot quieter ever since but my new one is good now. Lesson learned: Coolers are crap.

Intercoolers hurt, you should avoid them.
