Hey I'm from Australia and I'm going to sell my current 360 and get the elite and there's a few things I would like to know. Do all the elites have the jasper chip and how do you tell and are the elites quieter? also does installing games on the HD help make it run quieter?

thanks

Not all Elites have the Jasper chip. Some will have the Falcon still. I forget how to tell exactly from reading the box if it's a Jasper. Installing games to the HD will make it run quieter and less wear on the console. :)

For the US, the only Elite's that are jasper-equipped so far are: -Red Resident Evil 5 bundles -Fall 09 Elites (White package with the console standing up on front)

To my knowledge all versions of the xbox 360 manufactured in 2009 are jasper models, but there may be pre-jaspers still on shelves (models made in 2008).....so check the manufacturing date.

Unfortunately, elites were clearing backstock all of the way throughout this past summer, until August when the Fall 09's finally arrived on the scene, Jasper equipped and all. The GOTY Halo3/Fable2 bundles were all old backstock, which had hardware mfg dates of mid 08. So as you put it, yes - if it has an 09 mfg date, it's most likely a jasper.

Figures, i had to go and buy that stupid bundle last July only to find out i got screwed yet again for my loyalty to M$. I've had 5 broken Xboxes since i got one day-one. Looks like i have to look forward to yet another craping out on me.

So if it's in the white box with the elite on the front and it has a 2009 date then it has the jasper. Where does it say the manufacture date? Also I heard that the jasper has certain numbers on the back of the console, does anyone know what they are?

Yes they do have a way to ID them from other 360 architectures, its the power requirements, look for 12.1 A on the power rail under the UL listing stamp. check this link out http://giftguide.toptenreviews.com/?p=2721

As easy as this 14 amp-Falcon 12 amp-Jasper, you can check on the back hole of the box
