You always want to stay at the forefront of technology. How do you know, say, ten years from now, you won't have 1080p channels?HilbillyRokstar
Thats a good point, im just not sure it would be worth an extra $100. Plus by the time iv got enough money to pay for HD ill probably buying a tv bigger than 32'' lol
EDIT: ^well the 2 tv's im looking at are both the same Toshiba just one with higher def. and its a $90 dollar difference

you really don't notice the difference between 1080p and 720p until you get to around 42inches
So i'd say it depends on what size tv you plan on getting.

On topic: Yes, the 360 can upscale upto 1080p. I would suggest getting a 1080p TV (unless you're looking for something smaller than 32")
If you can get a better deal size or price wise go for a 720p. Most games are 720p native.Im looking for a new tv and im wandering if its neccesary to get a 1080p when i don't even have HD channles. Would it make a difference when i comes to playing 360 games?

Dont listen to these guys. The number of games on the 360 that are native 1080p can be counted on one hand if that. Almost all of the huge franchise like Gears of War, Forza, Halo, CoD, Madden and others all run at or BELOW 720p. Just because you have a HDTV capable of 1080p resolutions doesn't give you the ability to alter the games native, pre-programmed visual quality. All a 1080p HDTV will do to a 720p image is upscale it, but it is still not a TRUE 1080p image. Also, unless you are playing on a screen of 46" or higher, the difference between 720p and 1080p is negligible!
Now that being said, if this is going to strictly be a gaming TV, then 720p is plenty and will save you $150 or more. However, if you have plans to watch BluRay movies or potentially run a high end PC through your HDTV then the extra $$$ on a 1080p set would be a wise investment.
Do you have a crystal ball? What's the next console (which is due out in 2 or 3 yrs) gonna have? I'm betting 1080p will be the standard at some point. Possibly in as little as 3 - 5 yrs, maybe less.Dont listen to these guys. The number of games on the 360 that are native 1080p can be counted on one hand if that. do yourself a favor and get 1080p tv. i went to my buddies house and though something was wrong with his tv because it looked like crap. i told him his resolution was set wrong and found out it was a 720p. somehow i could easily tell the difference. unless you are the type that really doesnt care, just bite the bullet and get a 1080p.
You should get a 1080P tv simply because that's the standard and next gen games will all certainly be in 1080P by default and will maybe even let you go higher like PCs. For now though no you wont see a real noticeable difference in most games on the 360 due to the fact that most aren't running in 1080P. Even if you go to select 1080P in the options your really just getting a 720P image re-sized to fit a 1080P screen. This keeps the image from being stretched o fit the screen but doesn't improve the actually visual quality like a true resolution boost would. The few games that do run native 1080P will look better but they are few and far between most of this gens best games aren't part of that group and some are even sub 720P.
Like I said it the start though 1080P is the future and buying a 720P tv right now would be a bad move if you intend to be using said tv for the years to come.

It's kind of disrespecful.I tell him that because almost everyone on these boards thinks that 1080p is necessary this generation and it simply isnt! Heck, developers cant even hit 720p as a standard with console games, what in the world makes you think that they will all of a sudden be hitting 1080p in the next? At this point, Id be happy with rock solid 720p and 60 fps in EVERY game!![QUOTE="kungfuchaos"]

People keep TVs for 10 years?Darkslayer16I have a 32" Samsung 720p I bought back in '06 that I currently use as my PC monitor, so 5 years on this one so far. I retired it after buying a 40" Samsung 1080p in '08. I guess I keep my stuff for awhile. I hate having outdated electronics, but I can't drop $$ every time they add more Hz or different back lighting. When I bought my 40", the clerk said that it was the newest HDTV out. Then about a month later they had the 120hz version. So I was stuck with my 60hz that I thought was top of the market. Just going to wait it out until I can get a 40"-52" 240hz LED for cheap. Shouldn't be too long with all the 3D nonsense going on.

Nope, that's an old wives tale that made people feel better about their purchases, same fluff that went into the whole " you must sit 12 feet or more away from a 60 inch TV"
If you count retail and Live games you're talking about 2 dozen games and as far as set size unless it's smaller then a 24 inch set you should always go with 1080p

All I can say... Is that 3D Tv s without glasses are on the way... Ialready saw some.... aND ! Best is coming ! Imagine 8k by 4k tv... They already have that in japan... So its like year or so until we see that in stores ... Of course not cheap...
Go to YouTube and check diginfo news channel for more news.
Lol, Of Course! there are alot of games that support 1080p HD, and besides getting a new tv can have many effects on X360 gameplay, i went from a LCD projection tv to a LED Tv and i could just feel the diffrence, not only supporting 1080p but also smoother and better quality on fast action scenes etc

3D TV without glasses is currently inferior to other techniques and it will beseveral years before it catches up. Toshiba will haveconsumer sets next year, Philips the year after, both of which are based on current inferior tech, but Panasonic thinks that good quality glasses free TV in the home is 5 years away, other manufacturers think up to 10 years.
We don't see any 4K x 2K consumer screens yet. It will be many, many years before we see 8K x 4K. To use their full potentialwe need fast and expensive equipment across the line (such as cameras and production systems), new storage formats (forget current Blu-ray), new transmission formats (for TV) taking significantly more bandwidth, and so on. It will happen eventually but the cost is great across the board, far greater than the move to current HDTV or 3D.
