I was just looking at my friend's Steam profile and saw that he's in about 10 different clans, made me miss last gen where clans on consoles actually existed.

When I first got my 360 I remember I joined this clan but they stopped playing Gears so I left. I used to miss being able to get private matches with other clan mates going.

I feel like there still is clan support, but matchmaking and other means of throwing players into game after game has hindered the need (for most/casual gamers) to find a clan or group to play with. I do completely agree that playing in clans added to the experience, and wish there was a better, more organized mean of having clan vs. clan games/game modes. E.g, if modern warfare had actual clans and support, a mode dedicated to clan matches would without a doubt, add to the experience. Think of 6 v. 6 matches where everyone is working tactically together. This is technically possible now, but it can be a major pain to actually organize it, or at the very least, it would be a much more enjoyable experience if developers found a way to bring console clan matches back to life. Brings me back to the original SOCOM days : )

I wish games implemented clan support rather than having to go through gamebattles. I'm really turned off by all the MLG crap. I've been in the same clan for about three years, starting with Battlefield 2:MC. We were ranked in the top 100 for a while on that game and moved on to play Rainbow Six Vegas and it kind of ended with COD4. We still play together, but it's just not as fun to do clan stuff anymore with all of the hype around MLG and kids getting way too serious about Call of Duty.

In Rainbow Six Vegas, despite it not having in game clan support, the lobby system made it very easy to find clans willing to play and to set up clan matches. I'm not a huge fan of the whole matchmaking thing, however.

Clans are definitely still around. Just look around on the forums at any prominent game site (not counting IGN) and you will find plenty of active clan activity.

I play Team Fortress quite a bit, and that game has clans, a number of them. And that's a game with a relatively (compared to, say, Halo) small player base and crap developer support. I'm sure more popular games have clans out the ass. Were you talking about in-game support for clans?

Eh, I just figured that was more of a TF2 PC thing is all. I never figured it didn't have clans. I guess a better thing to say would be that I'm suprised it's used much on consoles, as I have never seen it used that much in the past.
