Simple question. To play most popular games, do I need to buy a hard drive, or will the 256mb internal suffice? And what about the arcade games? Thanks.

You should really try to pick up at leas a 20gb HDD. You can store you game saves on you memory card and use the HDD for all sorts of sweet stuff like ripping music to play wile in game, or downloading maps and such for halo/call of duty. Never try to limit yourself because you just don't get the same experience. :(

So what you are saying is that if I go order 10 different popular xbox 360 games, I can play all of them with no issues without a hard drive? It won't start giving me trouble about big save files or anything like that? And as far as arcade games are concerned, you say I should but don't need to. Why is it "best to have one"? How much space do they take up anyway? I don't care about music, dvd's or anything like that, since I have a PC for such things.

It's best to check the back of the box it should tell you if a game has large save files. Fable 2 and Dragon Age: Origins would be the nastier ones at 10mb. Mass Effect 2 saves are 3mb each. Fallout 3/Oblvion saves come in at 8mb each. The appeal of a hard drive is being able to download content from XBL and install games to it.

When you install games you won't be using your optical drive as much so less wear and tear.......

often it will also reduce loading times ( plus the optical drive makes to much noise for my liking)

and what I sad before if you like forza you won't be able to install the 2nd disc wich will result in less cars and tracks to play

just get a hard disc you won't regret it ( only wish microsoft would use better pricing on the harddisc-department)

I see, but those sizes are no trouble for a 256 internal. What are the sizes on the downloadable content like? I understand that full-fledged dlc's are probably big, but I won't buy any of those, so I am asking more about minor custom content packs(such as, say, costumes for street fighter 4) and arcade games like ikaruga, mega man 9/10 and other misc stuff like tetris or whatever.

Forza doesn't matter to me. Loading times interest me though. How bad is it?

I'd recommend a hard drive, but if you're just into single-player games with no map packs etc, then I suppose that 256MB will work temporarily.

If you run out of space you could just plug in a USB flash drive. Freecom and Sandisk do 4GB sticks for about £7.50.

All I am ever going to play is Super Street Fighter 4, Blazblue, Ikaruga, Mega Man 9, possibly other titles like the last two(arcade ones), and MAYBE that new Deus Ex game if it actually turns out good(I am not holding my breath, since Deus Ex is difficult to live up to). Possibly SSF2 Turbo HD.

Wait, you are saying that my perfectly normal 1gb usb flash drive will work??! What about my 1TB hard drive for normal use? Or the harddisk on my own computer while we're at it?

Dragon age ate up my 256mb. As for DLC it can be 100-900mb or larger for expansions,

well most no no... but i promise you regret it... why i say you regret it...

~no downloading demos

~no installing games (stops your disc spining you won't hear it, makes your xbox run coolor, little faster load times in 99% games

~dont think about buying game of year ediotions because those come with disc that make you download dlc that came packed with the game to be able use it or codes to be used.

~most companys are giving alway pre order bonus that needs to be installed to be used.

~no downloading dlc for games(new maps, exspansions ect ect

few other things but those the big ones.

ya it might seem nothing since you can't see it in your eyes right now but i promise week later you regret it. i got 20gb(really a 13gb) xbox and i'm no big downloader but i couldn't take it anymore was always runing out space so i upgraded to a 60gb hard drive. perfect for me. 250mb is going kill you.

Not an issue now. You can use USB drives to expand your space, so if you want to install a game or two or install a ton of arcade games a 8GB stick would more than suffice and is much cheaper than picking up a used 20GB.

old arcade games use to be around 100-200mb less but with these newer ones i seeing them push it 300-500mb not kidding. some dlc is free and don't say you wont buy dlc. you fall i n love with some games and when map packs come out you get them. and off the bat a dlc can start off from 300mb run up to easily 1gb. highest i seen for dlc was 1.2gb

[QUOTE="DJ_Lae"] That's great. What about an external harddisk?

Those arcade games can fit on a flash drive though. And no, I won't be buying any dlc's. I hate 99% of all video games. Mass Effect 1/2, Oblivion, Fallout 3, AC1/2, GTAIV, Bioshock 1/2, every single console FPS, to name a few popular titles, I consider garbage. Shallow and extremely easy. As in literally impossible to die. AC2 is the only one of them I played to the end(on PC) and I didn't heal in combat once during the whole game. I didn't even need to repair, and beat the game with like 4 health blocks active at all. I was never in any kind of danger. That kind of thing just doesn't amuse me. As for the story I could have written a better one myself. I will give it props for its technical achievements, but every big title has that. It is unlikely that I will be buying dlc's or games coming out at all(although part of me wants to buy the upcoming Deus Ex, while the more realistic me knows that it's never going to live up to its predecessor, and that its just going to be like all the other titles I mentioned and bring shame to the memory of Deus Ex). Out of all the titles on the Xbox360, the only games I want to play are Super Street Fighter 4, Blazblue and various arcade titles like Ikaruga, Worms 2A, Perfect dark, maybe Castlevania and some other arcade titles I am unaware of. So as far as I am concerned it seems like I won't really need a harddisk(I will consider the spinning CD problem if that becomes an issue). Thanks though.
