Im asking this because I connect to xboxlive through my router, but whenever I need to use the internet I have to sign off of xboxlive to plug in the ethernet cord back into the router in order for me to use the internet again. So basically I cant use them both at the same time. So Do I need a linksy?? And if so how much are they??

I think you first need to explain your setup a bit better.

The typical setup would be a DSL or Cable Modem that physically connects to your phone or Cable line. That modem is then connected to a Router via a network cable. A Router typically has 4 ports to connect other devices, such as a computer, or 360, using network cables. A wireless router usually still has these 4 ports, as well as an antenna for the wireless connections. Sometime, and Router and Modem may be combined into one unit. The funtion of a router is to allow multiple devices to use one connection. So, given all that, what is your setup exactly? What connects to what?

So you only have 1 plugin option to the internet? Yes you'd need a router. It will turn 1 port into 4.

Any router will do, make sure you don't buy a wireless if you aren't in need of one. A wired router should be in the range of 30$, could be less.

If you go to radioshack, they have a linksys speed boost router on sale for like 50 or 60 bucks, makes your wireless connection 30% faster. I suggest that one, even though you dont really need a linksys.
