Yes, you need the HD AV (RED GREEN BLUE) cable for hdtv. If you want an upgrade, you can choose to play with an HDMI cable.

It'll work fine, i'm almost posative all HDTV's have SD(red, white, yellow) inputs in them, mine does.

As far as HD cables go, mine came with my 360, all i had to do was flip a switch. Not sure if that is true for earlier models though.
