I know you are not supposed to install to the HDD Halo 3 as it makes it way slower. Any other games people aware of?

SO far it works great for GoW2, L4D, F3, CoDWaW.

i thought installing mass effect on the hdd made it worse. it does load faster, but i notice the framerates have gotten worse, especially in the citadel. about gta 4, it's a 50:50 situation. the loading time is faster, framerates improve a bit, but there are more pop-ups than before. the game that has gained most benefit from this install feature in mc:la. after installing it, load time is a lot faster, and so far i've not seen any pop-ups at all.

I pretty much only know of games that you "should" install like Fable II, Fallout 3, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, The Orange Box, Rock Band 2, Simpson's the Game, Virtua Fighter 5 and especially Ninja Gaiden II where the initial load is cut by 3 times and in-game loads are pretty much eliminated.

I don't understand how installing them should make them slower???

Does someone know the reason this happens?

on the xbox 360 hdd, 4 gb of hdd space is alocated for data caching. games like halo 3 uses this function. when you load halo 3, it load cache into the 4gb space on the hdd. when you install the game on the hdd, you're actually creating a disc image of the game. the game will think it's launching from the dvd drive as it is emulated. it will still load cache into the 4gb space, which increases hdd activity, and making it slower. well, i think my theory is correct. correct me if i'm wrong. bungie should make a patch for halo 3 soon.

Actually Bungie stated they will not be releasing a patch, as it would require too much re-working of the games's code. No big deal Halo 3 was never too heavy on the load times.

Not like many people play it, but i downloaded NHL 09 to my HDD (5.7g) and it was identical to reading off the disc....if anything the loading was a slight bit longer. EA did a great job of loading from 08 to 09, so the disc read configs must work better than running off the hdd.

Hardly, you insert the disk in the drive and there's an option to install it to the HDD. It takes around 10 minutes for the computer to transfer the game to HDD - you don't have to do anything further. Then job done. Not a lot of work at all.

That sounds about right. Thing I don't understand is Halo 3 isn't the only game that uses the cache. Most other games do too so why is it ok for them to be installed but not Halo 3?

other games probably read more from the disc than load cache into the hdd. there are other games that have the same problem as halo 3, such as gta 4, which also load cache into the hdd. the pop-ups got worse after installation.

My Gears of War 2 game was working perfectly for 2 weeks straight. So yesterday I decided to try and install it. After the installing was finished, I pressed "Play Game" and now it says "Disc Unreadable". I think installing it messed up my game. And yes, I've tried uninstalling it and restarting the console. =(

Yup.  I installed L4D and see a slight change in load times.

I've only installed one game, Fallout 3, and the amount of space it ate up isn't worth the 10 to 15 seconds off load times.

I'm keeping Halo 3 installed, don't really care too much about loading times as I'm always online with it and rarely ever play campaign. The best thinig about it is that makes the 360 quiter instead of a jet taking off.

I'm really glad I chose to buy an Elite now.

I still to this day don't understand the complaint on the console being loud. Yes you notice it when you first but a game in, but after that I never hear it again due to in game sounds & music.  I guess if I played more with volume set to mute I could agree with all the fuss.

Do you play this game online in the Be A Pro leagues? My cousin and I play it all the time and we LOVE this game! Best sports game I have ever played. I need to buy a 120 gig hard drive so I can throw it on there.

My parents can hear it from their room upstairs, so now that the sound is gone, I can sneak on and play when I'm not supposed to :P, that's what I was getting at. Oh well, 1 more year and I'm off to Uni.

I'm gonna try it on Oblivion which has some of the worst loading times ever in a game. Hopefully by installing it that will cut down on those times. Tried it on Gears of War and COD4, and really didn't notice a difference except the disc didn't spin, immensely cutting down on the noise.

You might want to reconsider. Improved load times when loading up the game or another area is only one aspect of the improvements you get after installing F3 to hdd.. I noticed also that the game just felt smoother and faster overall, while navigating menus, going in and out of the pip boy, etc. It's definitely worth it if you have the space. I wonder if it does the same to Oblivion, I'll have to try it out.

I installed this too and i noticed before the games it seems to me it loads a little bit faster. Never actually timed it or anything but it does seem a little quicker.
