I had a chance to play GH3 over the weekend however I found myself thinking "this is not how you play a guitar.A guitar has 6 strings" lol.I would think that they could make a fake guitar with buttons all the way down the neck for each string and each fret (it would make a great learning tool) but because I can play a real guitar (not great but ok I guess:roll: ) it took a lot out of it for me.Don't get me wrong I found myself having fun the first two or three times but after that it was like "What the #%$@ am I dong this for?".So my question is do real guitar players like or dislike GH3 and games like it?

Not at all. Atleast not real guitar players who play classic rock. I'll give you a perfect example. If anyone has noticed a lot of teenagers have been getting into bands like Kansas, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin (I know they aren't in the game), The Who, ect.

I have had people come up to me and say "HEY DID YOU EVER HEAR THAT SONG "PAINT IT BLACK" BY THE ROLLING STONES?!?!" My response is "Yes, of course, where did you hear it?" "Guitar Hero" said the other guy. Then I asked him if he could name 5 of their songs and he was puzzled. All of a sudden people start acting like they are classic rock experts after playing Guitar Hero. In my opinion Guitar Hero has ruined all of that music.

i play the guitar and bass, and although guitar hero isn't as great as the actual thing, it's still pretty fun. although i do agree about guitar hero ruining music, not quite as much as MTV, but close. i've been a fan of the rolling stones for years, (i'm now 16) and i find it very annoying seeing people think they're fans just because they've heard the song "paint it black."

Exactly! That's how I was. It's like it plays to the beat of the drums more than the guitar. It was harder for me as well.I'd be playing to the rhythm but I'd be strumming when there were no buttons to push.

BTW I'm not knocking it totally.I mean there were other people there that were having fun so it serves a purpose just not for me.8) lol

I do play Guitar and i have for nearly 20 years now (off and on).

I love guitar hero absolutely love it. However you should take it for what it is: a Game.

Its not an emulation of the real thing it does not play like the real thing it wont makke you learn the real thing either (even though i heard differently for the drum set of rock band). the plastic guitar is a controler just like anyother one shaped as a guitar.

But It a lot of fun!

Interesting topic...

Well, I play guitar for fun as well, im not dreaming of becoming huge rock-star or something, it is just something that kinda makes me relaxed after long day at the office. Same actually with Guitar Hero, but i found that I'm getting a little bored when I play by myself (well, not anymore since i got some new DLC). I have friends overalmost every week, and every time we play guitar hero in co-op or whatever, and that IS fun.

I think, every mentally stable person can figure out difference between playing real guitar and plastic controller, as long as they have fun. Never actually occured to me that guitar players could be so pissed off about a game...

As for "I-have-playged-GH3-now-I-know-EVERYTHING-about-rock!!!" people... just ignore them. It pisses me off when person says he knows "Rolling Stones" and cant name 5 of their songs... but i usually ignore them because arguing with idiots is just a waste of time.

Guitar playing has nothing to do with Guitar Hero. That's like asking if real professional dancers like DDR.

You're not supposed to play GH like a real guitar... It's a rhythm game. When you're playing DDR, you aren't really dancing, you're stepping on up, down, left, and right. But dancers don't really hate DDR, because it's a video game.

Dragonforce = lame and through the flames and fire is one of the cheesiest songs i've ever heard, even if it is a beast to master in real life, it's not entertaining. Sounds like theme song from an old tv show in fast forward.

I see alot of elitist snob responses. "Imm too cool for GH" is what I hear between the lines mostly. GH is what inspired me to actually want to go out and buy a real guitar. GH ruined classic rock? That is a ridiculous statement. I've loved those bands for years and being able to play them in a game is just fantastic. Alot of the people here must just get over themselves and accept that the game is great fun and good at introducing a whole different generation to music they might not have otherwise explored.

I've been playing for around 12 years now (seriously, not on and off), and went to college for a degree in guitar performance. Gh is literally NOTHING like playing for real. and alot of the bands and songs on them are highly overated anyway, with a few exceptions. And I'm so sick of people freakin out over Dragon Force, acting like they're some new musical geniuses or something, all they did was rip off a bunch of black metal, and Neo classical metal bands who have been playing harder and faster songs for years, and yet because they have a pop viable vocalist everyone thinks their great. True Black and Technical Metal FTW!!!

Good point! But do you really want new controller to have more fret buttons along the neck? For people who dont play guitar and have no interest in playing, this will be f***n' impossible:) Therefore they will lose any interest in the game, and that will result huge money loss and then actual death of franchise...

I would really like to try something like this... but then again, i may be one of thousands of players...

It also depends if persons learns to play real guitar before or after Guitar Hero. I think if someone tries guitar after Guitar Hero - he will enjoy both the game and real thing. If you play guitar for a long time and THEN try the game - yes, you may find it hard to play.

It's a gimmick. Durr-de-durr. [sarcasm] I served in the army, so I don't see the interest in playing CS:S or Call of Duty 4. [/sarcasm] I know how it's easy to assume "since I play guitar I don't need to pretend to play guitar on a videogame", but that's not how it really works.

thats exactly how i feel. I started out listening to classic rock and moved on to metal, and more rock music, and people do that to me all the time. One of my friends bought GH2 and I think thats the one with Lamb of God's Laid to rest, next day at school he wore a LoG t shirt and thought he knew everything about them and he couldn't name any other song by them. the same thing happened to another guy he bought GH and got an ironmaiden t shirt and thought he knew everything about them to but he could only name one song. and another time (yes i have a good number of friends that play GH) they did it with pantera and they couldn't name any other song other than cowboys from hell. which i thought was sad because we live in texas (pantera being from texas)

I've played guitar for five years now, and i played guuitar hero a few times at my friends house. It was okay, I definetly wouldn't buy it. But thought it was funny to see some of the people i know that are really good at GH act all bad A$$ when they're playing it.

Dude, Dragonforce has been around for quite a while now... they were doing great before Guitar Hero... some people just like Fantasy metal (if its a real term:)), but then again... some people find fat people attractive, i dont understand that but its their choice and we should be cool with that. oh, and Through The Fire and Flames starts to sound annoying after 5 times listening - just my opinion.

My opinion is that people need to relax. I've been playing guitar for quite some time now, and I think GH is a cool game. There would be no point trying to make the game exactly like playing a real guitar. That'd be stupid. It's a guitar simulation, and they do a pretty good job of it. Of course it's not going to be like playing a real guitar. Why? Well it would take far too long to develop a game like that. Once they did, if they put that much time into trying to simulate playing the guitar, the players mine as well go out and buy a real guitar. I find it ridiculous that people state, "Well guitar hero is stupid. It doesn't emulate what you do on a real guitar." Hello, that's the point. It's meant to be fun. As for people thinkingthey know all about classic rock, or rock andany of the bands on the game, who cares? People have been doing that since before this game waseven in development.

LOL!!! No having a controller with the appearance of a guitar for GH is a complete coincidence. Why would they do such a thing. I have nothing against the series. Or Rock Band or any of them. And Mr. Darkside up there it's not about us being stuck up. Some people just have no interest in it. I happen to be one of those people, but then we offer up that opinion and end up getting bashed becuase, "Uh! You play guitar and don't like GH3!" Or, "well you suck at it that's why". Can it be possible that there may be some of us that just don't like it, whether or not we play a real guitar is beyond the point anymore.

Same here. Only I have been playing for 16 years, but I agree. Just nothing appealing about it to me.

You guys do know that Guitar Hero has nothing to do with emulating guitar right? It's a video game.

And having a strum bar and fret buttons aon a GUITAR SHAPED controller is just a coincidence? Dude, grab a clue. I hear bestbuy has a door crasher this week on them...2 for 1 clues..go out and grab 3 packs please.

LOL!!! No having a controller with the appearance of a guitar for GH is a complete coincidence. Why would they do such a thing. I have nothing against the series. Or Rock Band or any of them. And Mr. Darkside up there it's not about us being stuck up. Some people just have no interest in it. I happen to be one of those people.

That's cool and all, I don't care. You clearly avoided my point so I am not even going to argue about it.

[QUOTE="-Samael-"]I've been playing for around 12 years now (seriously, not on and off), and went to college for a degree in guitar performance. True Black and Technical Metal FTW!!!super_slonik

Dude, I'm not even taliking about their popularity post GH, I'm talking period. They literally just ripped off a bunch of really good bands that get relatively little credit, because people are to busy listening to the regurgitated dribble that is modern music.Thats the way the world is

I have played guitar for 21 years. I stay away from GH. It does not appeal to me in the very least. Why?

Sorry if I hurt your feelings dude we can't have thatand I know it's not a simulation. Just as I know GTA 4 will not be a drivers ed course. However, the original question was whether or not people that play guitar dislike gh3 or games like it. I think I was rather simple in my answer of no it does not interest me. It's okay though, I really don't hate you for liking it.

Yes, GH has absolutly nothing to do with playing a real guitar. Of course playing a real guitar is more fun but GH still is appealing to me.

I like these sorts of games and I've played guitar and bass for a long while. It's not really the same thing as playing the guitar though. As far as Guitar Hero 3 goes, I don't think it's that great. GH2 is way better, and Rock Band is a helluva lot better than both of those.

Can't disagree... But thats the problem - once the good band (in this case, the band that got ripped of by Dragonforce) becomes popular, it changes everything - music, lyrics and etc. It involves money, producers and bunch of other crapt that is completely irrelevant to the topic. But you are right - thats the way the world is:(

You don't think that they use the songs without the bands' permission, right...? >___>

Holy crap!! lol I just got home from work to check this and everyone is yelling at each other.lmao....This was not the point of the post but I must say it's very funny to read.I've always thought that if someone likes it and it dosn't hurt anyone then its cool with me.Yes even boy bands I just do not listen to them.I play a guitar because I like it.It is fun for me.I tried GH3 and it was fun for me but hard for me so the fun did not last.Guitar players are not downing your skills at GH3 because it is hard.I've tried it.I think the word that started mixing the real with the fake was simulation. It is not.I think thats all we are say'n and I think that is fair.We took the time to learn how to play guitar. So we know it's not at all similar therefor not a simulation. You took the time to learn how to play the game and you rock at it.Good for you and sucks for me because I will never be a Guitar Hero...um...Hero.I think if you were play'n BOOM BOOM Rocket there would be no conflict because guitar is not in the name of it.lets not ignore the fact that that IS what you are playing.BOOM BOOM Rocket with a controller shaped like a guitar.Guess what I own BOOM BOOM Rocket and I'm good at it.

You crazy kids and your video games.

I've been an active guitar player for more than 20 years.

I like playing Guitar Hero III, but it's nothing like playing guitar. It's closer to playing keyboards.

Looking at some of the previous comments, I think that Guitar Hero has brought classic rock to more kids which is awesome. I know personally I never listened to much of the Rolling Stones but after their songs being in GH2, 3, and Rock Band I've began to listen to more and more of their work. On the issue of real guitar players liking the game, I have a few friends that are pretty good with guitar and that love the game for what it is....some thing that's supposed to be fun and not realistic.
