San andreas got a 9.6, close to 10. I think they probably will have improved alot, Graphics, multiplayer...and more. I know you haven't played it, but do u think close to 10?
sure it might get a 10, if you're thinking of the old gamespot. now their scores are at least a few behind what they should be. knowing this, GTA IV will get probably an 8 or 8.5 from gamespot.

yea but that was with the old system where they vowed to never give a perfect score again. But if you look at the new policy, can you find a score labelled prefect?

Read the article again. Rockstar Contacted Gamespot saying that there were 8 hours of Cutscenes and not game play.
It is games like this that make me wish gamespot didn't change the rating system. If this game lives up to its hype then it will probably fall in the category of "better than 9.5, but not a perfect 10." However, since it can only be a 9.5 or 10, I'd bet a lot that it will be a 9.5.
All you people that are saying 9.5 are just halo fanboys because there is no reason to suspect this game to get a lower score than its former gta san andreas. My personal opinion is that they over did everything just incase halo3 cod4 or gow2 overdid everything and it will score 9.5-9.8 lol no way 10 only one game got a 10 from gamespot and that was in 1997.(or something)
I would like to comment, even though GTA is a good game, developed still by the same company (i think). Although it is a complete new platform and experience, as I haven't know them that well but San Andrea's was hell of a addictive game or the other one back in the old days on PC a couple years back (2-3). From what I have seen so far, it looks very, very promising. let's hope it gets a 10, otherwise we'll pretty much call it game of the year, if not, pretty much a good game.
I doubt Gamespot will be throwing around 10's now that their credibility is being questioned. Every known staff member has walked away from the site for reasons we all know but can't talk about (kind off like a dictating system here), I just highly question if they have the balls to rate this game a 10. When it's worth it offcourse.

It's GTA, we know how the gameplay works. With the updated graphics and addition of multiplayer it should be pretty damn close to being perfect (at what it does) this time around. All this talk about how games can't recieve a 10 is bull. If there is nothing wrong with the game (which is perfectly possible) plus it's a whole load of fun then it will recieve a 10.
Though, it's probably likely there will be issues with frame rate in singleplayer or lag in multiplayer and that 10 is a goner just like that.

halo fanboys? no reason to suspect lower than san andreas? :roll:, well for a start its a different system these days that is rated in .5s instead of .1s theres one reasonto suspect a 9.5 rating, also its rare to get a 10 like you said so i'm going to vouche for a 9.5 simply because i have a feeling the multiplayer wont be up to the standards of some of the other games out there today like halo and CoD. just my opinion though

Does this make me a Halo fanboy? Last time I checked you can only score 9.0, 9.5 and 10.0 on gamespot so if it isnt going to be a 9.5 then it's either a 9.0 or a 10.0
I doubt it will get a 10. A game this big has to have some clipping ,framerate, pop-in, or something. It might get a 9.5. But then again they gave Halo 3 a 9.5 and it has it's share of problems.

GS confirmed that GTA had eight hours of cutscenes so having a 7 hour main story sounds iffy. Obviously there will be lots more to do like in Oblivion.

i agree... oblivion has like 100+ hours of gameplay and is a better game.. and got a 9.6
I'm no GTA fanboy, but I think its highly possible. The campaign is by no means short, the leaked achievements state that 30 gamerpoints can be obtained if beating the campaign in under 30 hours. 15 modes and 16 player online. A live city. Realism everywhere. FUN. GTA IV will live up to the hype, but a 10 is the best score possible. We'll see...
the series finally has the power of next-gen consoles, i predict it will be the best in the series, even thou vice city (my favorite of the series) is hard to top.

First, I said that GTA would probably get a 9.5 and I hate the Halo series, so you probably shouldn't generalize like that. Second, as pointed out, the reason people are saying 9.5 and not "9.5-9.8" is because of gamespots new rating system that goes in .5 increments, hence, why no game has been rated on a .1 scale since June 22, 2007 when Band of Bugs for X360 got a 6.3 and Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer for PS2 and Wii got a 2.6. Finally, just a fun gamespot fact: 4 games have, in fact, received ratings of 10--Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 (PS2 2001), Chrono Cross (PS 2000), Soul Caliber (1999 DC), and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64 1998).
You should remember that GTA3, GTA:VC, GTA:SA all got 9.6. Gamespot loves GTA, so it'll probably get 9.5. 10? Maybe, we haven't even played the game yet, so who knows.
I have a feeling it will get less that GTA SA. Some thing tells me because of the amount hype there is around the game, anything less than a spectacular game will leave gamers disappointed. Actually I forgot about the multiplayer side of the game. If they execute the ideas mentioned well it could be one of the best games of all time. But some games have struggled with different aspects of multiplayer, the complexity as well as the scale of GTA could make it tough to achieve. I think that the multiplayer could be one of two things, the aspect that make one of the games around or it could be be its undoing and make the overall experience less than ordinary.
If it gets near a 10(most likely) I really don't care at this point. I loved every GTA game I played and this won't be any different. I mean damn just play the game and if you love it you love it and vice versa. You shouldn't let reviewers dictate what games you play.
You've also got to keep in mind that as time goes by, there are new expectations for certain games. San andreas got a very good score for that time period but with all the new technology and games we have seen, the expecations for many people may be really high for this game.
I don't think it will get a bad rating though, 8.5 or up sounds right.
