Just wondering because I'm trying to build a collection and need to pick up some early titles such as Dead Rising, Saints Row, Gears, etc. I'm all about picking up new games for cheap but not if their going to be gimped. Besides the cover art.. what's the difference? I'm thinking their gonna look bad on my shelf and not as appealing to collectors later down the road, but then again collectors would love to pick these game up any way they can 20 years from now yes?

You tell me. Do you enjoy seeking out greatest hits / platinum hits of games from different consoles or do you avoid them like the plague?

Don't really care to be honest. Platinum hits usually have any extra content in them. Like Mass Effect 1 one for example. It had a second disc with some DLC on it.

I'd say dont worry about it. As long as you have the game who cares.

Well in Europe they are called Xbox Classics and I hate them

I ordered GOW online once and got the ****cs edition. I was pissed because It doesnt fit at all with GOW2 and 3 on my game shelf. The boxes look really ugly.

Honestly, as a collector, this is plague to me. As a gamer, I don't mind the boxart. I have Just Cause 2 ****cs I believe and I really dont mind. If it was one out of a series than I would mind.

Um... I really don't care about what form of the game I get, as long as I get the game in its entirety. Other than that, couldn't care less. I have several handheld games that are just catridges, I don't care. I "collect" games to play them and have fun, not to sell them down the road.

I like the original better for my collection, but if the GOTY edition or ultimate edition or whatever they decide to call it has extra content, ill go for that.

What? Why would you avoid them? They stopped that terrible plat hits art back in 2008 and since then they look fine, infact some have even been reprinted with the new art where all that is change is PLATINUM HITS at the top and the top is Silver instead of white/Green.

I never really cared. It meant that I got a game for cheap and it had all of the DLC on it.

Then you bought it second hands or you got ripped off by the shop.

Anyway, no I have a pretty big xbox collection with atleast 10 classic/platinum games in it gives some variation to me :).

My favorite game is a platinum hit so no, it doesn't really matter to me. I don't really care for the way the platinum hit boxes are designed though...but oh well.

I actually did. The battery replacement sticker came off a couple of months ago on my controller. For the most part, I avoid them unless they add new content or I can't find the regular cover anywhere.

As has probably already been said, most PH editions carry all of the extra DLC some games have. If you want you could probably find a used version of an older title. It might be slightly cheaper but it'll be used and it won't have any extra content. Just do a little research before buying each game and you'll get the best deal.

Classics don't appeal to me, just like the original game itself but with an ugly covering.

I do but for another reason. With the recent games coming out the bar is set so high, that any game from the past, probably older than 2 years, may seem like a disappontment to me, even if the game was praised during its time. When i see the platinum hits on the cover I do tend to avoid them. I'm not a huge collector of games, but i also prefer not to have the "Platinum" over it as well. However, the first reason is my primary reason.

I dont care for the cover art on some games but sometimes draw in my own cover. I kinda like to sketch though. I hate that old gamestop cover with the yelloe dudes though.

I only avoid "platinum hits" on that other HD console because of the RED cases. I don't like the look of that shade of Red. But Platinum hits on Xbox 360 I don't mind. or Platinum hits on the original Xbox either. Since I don't mind the Platinum hits cases of Xbox/Xbox 360.

I've never understood this. I am a collector and I find platinum hits games all over the place for dirt cheap, so I take advantage of the offer and put 'em on my shelf with all my other games. A game is a game, who cares if the side of the box is lightly grey instead of white.

i would say by all means go for the platinum hits version. they usually have extra or almost all the DLC for that game!

these games will only be worth what people will pay for them in the future don't worry about buying them to resell you're wasting your time. just like with football cards.. complete waste of time in collecting to resell.

Often, they contain all the DLC that was previously released. They are cheaper than buying the game and then DLing the content. I am always looking for these types of deals.

Depends on the game: If your looking for a game that comes with extra content that would have cost you about from $19.99-$49.99 in microsoft points at Gamestop alone, then buying platinum hit games is a good idea.Beats having to spend more out of the pocket then what you want. If not looking for games with extra content, then don't waste your time.

As a collector, I have two sets of games. One set to play, one set to collect. The games in my collectible set stay sealed.... but this set only has a few games from this gen.

If you don't want to take it to that exent and just want to play the games, then by all means, buy the Platinum Hits version.

I'll much prefer to have the platinum hits, especially the ones with all the bonus content, than have no box art at all. I remember buying Devil May Cry 4 at Gamestop and they, Gamestop, don't have the box art for the game, so they give me a generic white Gamestop game case and put the game in it, which was absurd considering there was no box art, no game manual, nothing but a crappy white Gamestop case with a disk in it. I am pissed that Gamestop does that nonsense with older games.

Im very selective of my game cases. The only game I have ever bought that didnt come with the manual was Oblivion, and I plan on getting the GoTY edition when I get the money anyway.

The cases are ugly. And I'm not necessarily a collector, it's just things have to be right, and that one case that looks out of place on my shelf ruins it.
