Just a question. I have always seemed to avoid the game even though part of me wants to play it.

I am 28. I've been playing games starting with ZX spectrum in 93 or so. The games I played we're all simpler without the ability to display too much offensive content. In 1997 I started playing PC and PS1 games. I was then still desensitized to violence. I think I was 13 or 14 so the games I was introduced to actually shocked me for a while with their violence. They were Duke 3D, Shadow Warrior, Blood, and doom little earlier. Blood and Shadow Warrior were particularly violent as they had the option of killing innocents. I did not find it offensive or non-offensive. I just felt that was not the best thing for me even though I still played them. Now when I see games such as GTA series and some other violent stuff I do not find anything wrong with admitting the games are offensive. I strongly believe kids (those under 17 or 18 depending on your country's laws. In USA it is 18 legally) should not be exposed to such things like GTA games where they kill any stranger and take their money. But the responsibility to allow or prohibit them from playing rests on the parents only. The kids mostly will naturally want to play and see everything. But that is why we consider those under 18, in general, not in every case, to be unable to make fully rational decisions. That could be for many different reasons. I am not arguing why or why not. There are smart kids who are intelligent beyond third age, which is usually not something they can determine for themselves, but there are many more who are idiots for their age or inexperienced in life. They can be desensitized to violence and graphic content easily and shod not play any of these games unless parents permit them. That said at 28 I simply don't find any violence and graphic deaths in games to be fun or scary. Probably seen most of it, but I simply don't want to play games like GTA or Assassins Creed because I don't feel the ability to kill anyone and reject any morality and right and wrong concepts is fun or realistic to me. I prefer to project myself into the game to feel like it is me there making the decisions, and GTA is not something that I want to project to.

Never played story mode in GTA4- I only ever played freeroam MP. And the **** you hear over the mic on that game is way, WAY more offensive than anything the developers would have risked putting in.

I play it because its fun AND offensive. Theres nothing like crackin old lady skulls after you just jacked a truck and killed a hooker for your money back. Good wholesome fun, amirite?

You should probably play Assassin's Creed before you write it off. Killing isn't as apathetic as you apparently think is. Unlike in GTA where you can just mow down a street full of pedestrians and get into some throwaway chase with the police, you cant do that in AC. Even the people you assassinate its not cold and merciless like you think.

When was genocide in GTA? Anyway, no, I don't find Grand Theft Auto offensive. I don't see why anyone would, really. If anything, it's more like GTA has always been about over exaggeration.

The freedom to kill all inocents as brutally as possible. (It was an extreme comment to make a point)

To be offensive it would actually have to do something to offend someone. Violence is not really offensive, but something like racially motivated violence is offensive. Just because something is wrong doesn't mean it's offensive. To be offensive would be to target someone or something.

Anybody that finds GTA offensive is overly sensitive and needs to get over their moralistic selves.

Finding GTA offenssive pretty much means you find life offensive. Living in NY and playing GTA IV made me realize that there's others that witness the same amount of craziness I witness when walking the city streets.

nope, I find it satirical and funny most of the time.

only thing I really find offensive is gross-out humor, but not like i'm gonna go crazy on them or anything.

its not offensive, its a game

you also have to remember that 90% of the things in the game that would be considered 'offensive' are optional, you dont have to do them, they will only happen if you choose to make them happen

i found GTA4 a little offensive because they build up a storyline around a somewhat realistic character you cannot possibly like since hes just a crazy scum killer.

A game like Saints Row is easier since its mostly over the top and has a lot of comedy in it where you know they arent trying to hard to create much realism in the characters.

GTA 3, Vice City and SA were not offensive to me since they didnt suck like GTA 4. Plus I hate russians.

I dont find them offensive at all. As i grow older, i am actually more engaged in a mature, more offensive content than your average kiddy game.

I don't find games like GTA offensive, but I don't like those kinds of games, so I don't play them. I also don't like hearing little kids say that they play games like GTA. It makes me think "Where are your parents?! Do they not care how their child might turn out or are you so spoiled that mommy and daddy don't care what you do?"

As John Adams once wrote, "The Foundation of national morality must be laid in private families". The game isn't the problem, it's what the kids are or aren't being taught by their parents.

When I was like 8, I played Grand Theft auto. I am not a sexual deviant/murder today, I am just a normal guy. I think it should be up to parents to decide if their kids are mature enough for games like that. Games shouldn't be blamed for kids killing people over the game, the parents should.

Does that mean you would also consider Deus Ex, Deus Ex 2, Baldurs Gate 1-2, Icewind Dale 1-2, Fallout 1-2-Tactics, Ultima, etc as being just as offensive if not more so?

I played GTA as a kid and adult, was never offended but usually got bored quickly.

I don't think I've even been offended by anything.

Neither have I.

what you can learn from gta is that

it will always be ok to shoot hookers, gangster and basic all around aholes

in the face with a bazooka

just not schools, children and school buses full of children
