Not yet, though I'm getting close. Watching a DVD (Superman) last night and I was beginning to notice the grainy picture. Wondering if it'd be crystal clear on HDDVD.

No. Won't be getting any hd player for a few years. HD films don't do much for me honestly. DVD are fine for me. It's games that matter for me.

I downloaded it on XBL. I didn't know that when you hit play that you have only 24 hours to watch it after that. I didn't get a chance to watch it all but the picture was amazing!

the best thing to do, is to rent HD-DVD movie from your local blockbuster and use third party apps to rip it into your drive and save it there until the prices of the HD-DVD writer's go down.

yet it requires HD dvd player like the x360 one.... which you can get at £129 in THE UK.

No, considering a BD drive once they're available but no point to get HDDVD yet.

HD-DVD is losing sales...You're better off sticking to DVD9 for now, and then upgrading to BD25/50 players later.

Don't know if that's totally true because where I live, I see stack piles of Bluray there week after week (the same titles) and find it hard to find the titles i'm looking for on HD-DVD. maybe just around here? don't know

I enjoy my HD-DVD movies and would say, King Kong is a must see on HD as well as the clairty of some of the older films re-released.

Some of the videos i've seen are up to 50 bucks CAD, I can't believe they can charge that for a movie. I'll never pay that much 27 is pushing it.

I watched Superman Returns on hd-dvd over the weekend. Very nice picture quality on my 1080p Samsung DLP hdtv. Hey, its only $200 for the hd-dvd add-on, so its not going to break you to try it out.

Porno isn't HD-DVD only anymore. Not with the majors atleast. Vivid is doing both formats, it's only a matter of time before others follow suit.

Yah, and the other thing I noticed is that there are a lot of hd-dvd packages that have both the DVD edition and HD-DVD edition on one disc, which is a nice touch. Superman being one such edition. As you said, it's pretty cheap to get, though I've been a little worried about whether it passes the "mother test" which is whether a non-technical person will be able to tell the difference.

I have one. HD movies are awesome. I liked it so much, it pushed me to buy a PS3 earlier than I'd planned. I wanted to see as many movies in HD as possible.

Why pay that much money for some PC hd-dvd reader when you can get the hd-dvd drive which also can be used on a PC?

I have it and love it.

For you Superman fans, make sure you get the Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2, its a COMPLETELY different movie and much better than the original.

Yeah I have one.  The HD-DVD format has actually made me want to get a PS3 to watch BR movies alot sooner than I had even considered as well.

I have the HD-DVD drive and I think its definitely a worthwhile investment. Not only does it make the HD movies look fantastic, but the menu interface is awesome, and hard to go back to regular dvd's. Also, the added drive is a nice way to not put much strain on your XBOX 360 drive if you watch many movies. It also upgrades regular dvd's if you use the VGA cable. I can tell a major difference using the drive. Just my 2 cents worth.

Ha, I always love that "little rich boy" argument. I'm married to a nurse, I'm a programmer and we have no kids and a low priced apartment. That leaves a lot of extra income to spend on 'fun stuff'. Just for that comment, I'm going by Future Shop on the way home and spend a part of my disposable income on the HD addon, just to piss you off ;)

My wife got me one for an early Xmas present last year for $160 at Circuit City. Upon using it, and researching it.. I have been a strong supporter of HD-DVD. It may eventually lose to BluRay, though the only good news about BluRay is that it beat out HD-DVD movie sales ONE MONTH compared to all the other months were HD-DVD movies were outselling BD movies up to 10 to 1. Its still an awesome buy, because it will be around for another few years with titles being released EVEN if it did fail. Paramount alone announced they are releasing 100 movies this year for HD-DVD. No one knows what the outcome will be for the next media format.. technically, HD-DVD is still winning by far in regards to cumulative movie sales. So who knows.. I say get one if you are thinking about it.. it over-exceeded my expectations. :)

Haha thats awesome.. you gotta post a pic with you holding a piece of paper with his screenname next to the HD-DVD add on! I got the player for $160 new... Even if it did lose the format war.. It would be at least another year possibly more till I get a different format player. TONS of movies are being released in HD-DVD this year. $160 to use something for 2 years ain't bad... considering I rent 99% of my HD-DVDs.. Only buy the favorites.

but if hd-dvd fails then I just lost $200. I want to play it safe and wait for the war to end between blu ray and HD-DVD before I decided to get a hi def player.

$600 just to play BluRay movies? No thanks.. IF BluRay wins (big IF) I will get player in approx. 2 years.. By then, they should have a stand alone unit for $150 or so.. about what I paid for my HD-DVD player ($160).

If HD-DVD loses I lost what I spent on the movies (since the add-on was an xmas present) which I've only paid for 8 or 9 out of pocket so far.  By the time it would die I would be weighing the pros and cons of a combo player or looking at a PS3 when the price has dropped.....unless I just can't hold off on getting one until then.  Even at that, I'll basically just be blockbuster.com and gamefly'n movies and games.  So Sony will never really make any money off me anyway :P

to be honest im scared to buy it yet. While i know that hddvd is superior i think the misinformed will just get blu ray because it has alot more advertisments. I wish hddvd would just advertise better. Walk into best buy and you see blu ray every where but hddvd is back in the corner.

I knew I'd get a PS3 eventually. I had said I'd wait for the first price cut. After seeing how great HD-DVDs were, I figured I'd spend the extra $100(estimate on what first price drop would be). Spending $600 on a PS3 is a lot better than a grand on a component Blu-ray player.

I have an HD-DVD player and it is awesome.  It is hard for me to watch regular movies now.  I want solid blacks and crystal clear picture.

I do have a question.  Does anyone know why a company like Warner Bros puts out certain movies on Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD?  For instance the whole Matrix Trilogy is coming to HD-DVD and Blu-Ray but The Prestige is only out on Blu-Ray?

I'm going to use the term that many posters on the Xbox 360 forum like to use a lot: it's called "exclusivity". You'll never find a Disney or Sony movie in HD-DVD. The VAST majority of the major film studios are behind Blu-Ray. Why? Because of the HDCP (copyright protection) that Blu-Ray has built-in. It'll be significantly harder for people to pirate Blu-Ray movies. No, I don't have an HD-DVD drive yet. And no, I don't plan on getting one. I already have a PS3. And even if I didn't have a PS3, I wouldn't want another unsightly "brick" hanging off of my Xbox 360. The power supply is enough already, thank you.
