Horizontal is safest. If you have it vertical the disk can wabble causing scratches.

I have mine horizontal. I hear it gets the heat out of the system better. But any system I get, if possible, horizontal is my choice. There's also another way, my idea, of maybe helping from overheating. I just medicine bottle caps under the feet of the 360. Gives it extra room underneath. I know it may not help any, but it's something I thought up. :)

Horizontal, I'm afraid it's gonna fall over if I stand it up. If it had a stand, maybe then I would stand it up.

I keep it upright because it looks cooler. Also, it was made to be put upright. PS2 was made to be put horizontally although u can put it upright.

I have mine standing vertically, it was made to stand that way, it dissapates heat better that way, because there are no heating vents on the bottom part while standing vertically, so it gets all the ventilation it needs, and I'll agree it does look cooler and I also have it standing vertically because of space issues, I also have my Nintendo Wii vertically and would have to stand my Nintendo on top of my Xbox 360 if it were laid down horizontally. So basically Vertically > Horizontally.

Why does everyone get so technical when it comes to this. Honestly it doesn't freakin matter dude. The heat difference is so minute either way it is insignificant. keep your 360 anyway you want ittsss allllll gooooooddd

Last time I checked there was a lot of vent holes on the bottom of the 360.
