You haven't seen Hour of Victory's multiplayerm but yeah, I grew tired of GTA IV's multiplayer at some point as well, but it did have some good modes.
I finally tried Free Roam today and it wasnt good. People just ran around doing w/e and not going on my bus to cause mess with a 6 star rating :( . R* needs to add more people on this HUGE map. I have 2 people on one "island" and 5 on another and it takes time to get to them. I really hope R* updates and allows at least 32 players online.
It became incredibly boring and repetitive after awhile, which was about 3 weeks. After a few matches of each playlist, the novelty of GTA in an online world seemed to wear off, and you're left with a TPS with a mediocre aiming system, and vehicles. Plus, my friend and I had TONS of trouble connecting to a match for quite some time, adding to the frustration.
Depending on what your doing. I really liked the cops and robbers when it lasted a while, and got intense. I really couldn't stand free mode because It would take a while to find anyone. I dont think Multiplayer was necessary as single player is good enough on its own.
it was ok a; change of pace from COD4 (at the time), but more often than not you always get stuck in a match with the match settings the way you dont like em or a map you dont like etc. so i quit playing it all together and went back to COD4 and Gears
Maybe I was unfair on the game in my previous post, I should have tried out some other modes before slating the game like that. I'm a big fan of GTA, maybe I expected to much from the multiplayer. I'll give it another go tomorrow.
For the record I like the single player game a lot. I think the city is incredible, Rockstar done a great job on it. Shame they didn't include more things to do. Maybe DLC will fix the issues I have with it.
It's just ok. What I don't like is it doesn't lag but the framerate or speed while online is very different from single player. It just feels different when playing online.
It was fun when it first came out. Now it just feels really boring. Especially the AA rooms. Its like you spawn... kill 1 guy then you die... rinse and repeat. It got waaay to tedious.
Free roam is still a blast with your friends though.
if you get a full room on freeplay and there all not dumb you can play with em for hours. just so many things to do together from racing to setting up shop on a boat and having half the group try and kill you
i think it was not as good as some reviewers said it was. its fun with friends but it gets pretty boring PRETTY fast. the single player is where its at. i might actually play it soon, thanks for reminding me :)
In all honestly I was rather disappointed by GTA4's multiplayer. Although there was lots of interesting modes the aiming system was crap and it was mind-numbingly repetitive.
Now it's safe to say that the multiplayer isn't that good, I played most of the modes(I think all of them), and there's around 2-3 decent ones, I could care less about the rest. It made me want to play single player, AGAIN. Like Bioshock, it didn't need multiplayer, lets hope DLC adds more content in early 2009.
I've only played it for 6 hours, and that was in one Free Mode session. It was fun, and I can't seem to connect to a game since, it always says 'Disconnected From Game Session, Returning To Singleplayer.' And I won't even be in a game yet, just the loading screen.
The multiplayer is god awful, I would never recommend GTAIV's multiplayer to anyone. This game is best played for it's single player campagin. Multiplayer stinks and should be left alone at all cost!
As surprising as it may be, I never touched the multiplayer in GTA IV. I owned it back when they were all having freezing issues and every time I tried to enter multiplayer it would freeze.
