In multiplayer games mostly since I like to play the games with the music that was made for them, if I start listetning to my own music while playing Bioshock then it would ruin the entire experience. I mostly listen to rock music like Dragonforce, Aveneged Sevenfold, Less Than Jake, Say Anything , SOAD, Misfits and stuff like that. Anything rock I like except certain types of Metal. Also I suggest averyone who plays Dead Rising to listen to Misfits, they have some awesome songs that fit well with the game like "Hate the Living , Love the Dead, "Scream" and some others, amazing band.
When I'm playing a console system video game, No. When I'm playing an MMORPG and I'm on my daily grind, then Yes. Reason being, with MMORPG, it's the same environment, same thing everyday. With a console game, especially playing for the first time through, you want to hear all the sounds and you dont want to be distracted from the storyline/dialogue. There's a reason why you stepped up and bought a 5.1 surround sound system, not to put it to waste.
when i play pro evolution soccer on live i listen to whatever gets me pumped. Coheed and Cambria, metallica, nas, outkast, metal and hip hop....sometimes some phish:)
Not really, apart from when playing Forza 2, as there is no in game music. For some reason they dropped the ability to listen to the music saved on your xbox 360, in game. I don't know why they did that, it was one of the better features of the game.

Horse the Band RULE! i only listen while playing skate, usually to The Bronx, Gallows, Modern Life is War, American Nightmare, The Hope Conspiracy etc. it distracts me on other games though...
