If you have a wireless connection is paying £50 for an adaptor the only way to get my console online?

No, you can hook up a wired connection, or you can use a wireless bridge.

I don't know about you but my wireless router has some ethernet ports in the back. I just use an ethernet cable to connect my 360 to my router.

If its in a different room then consider using homeplugs which extend your wired connection.

Absoutely not, you do not need a wireless adapter to play online. You just plug an eternet cable (lookts like a phone cord) from your router or high-speed modem into the 'old 360. In my experience (and I think science backs me up here), you get less lag without using wireless.

If you don't have a laptop then you do. If You do have a laptop, you can use it as a wireless adaptor Which will save you about $100 for some stupid add on. All you need is a ethernet cable, a laptop, and the 360.

If you insist on wireless, yes. If you don't mind using a wired connection (I actually prefer using wired lol) then no. Just plug the ethernet cable included in the 360 set into your modem and you shall do fine :)
