i thought this would be pretty interesting to see. i personally have grown tired of searching for every corner of a game for extra armor pieces that dont matter because i already beat the game, let alone developers art, or numbers that make no difference (although i do see people with 60k gp and go wow that guys cool i wanna play with him).

so yea do u play the game one time through, then go back to get points, or do you in my opinion "ruin" your first experience tediously searching each corner, or do you, like me, just not care?

I let the achievements come to me. I just play the game, and if they come great. If not, don't really care.

I play the game and the achievements are bonus. I won't try and get all achievements for all games. I will however complete games on harder difficulties for the hell of it and that's unlocks achievements :)

I do this, aslong as the achievments aren't too hard to get. I don't have enough time/patience to get 100% in GTA4 and Seriously 2.0 in GoW2.

Most of the time I'll play a game through and then look at the Achievements and start knocking out the easy ones I missed. If they're too time consuming, especially on a game that's not very good, I don't bother.

I play games that are good, I just try to get all of the achievements in them along the way... I'm not one of those guys with 1000 in Avatar or King Kong.... all of my thousands are good games (IMO) apart from Blazing Angels... I bought that games because the screenshots made it look amazing, and I felt like I might as well finish it... But all of my games are good games...

Usually, I play through a game the first time without worrying about achievements. I want the "pure" game experience the first time through. Then after that, I try to get achievements.

I play the game through and don't care for achivements.

However, if it is a game I really like, like Skate 2 or Halo 3 etc. Once I 100% level up, complete game etc. I will go for achivements but NOT for the points, just for the joy of doing the challenge.

I hate people who play to show off their points and complain about your gamerscore, that bit isn't fun at all for me.

For the record if anybody checked, I don't play skate 2 that much anymore (way to buggy) and I've only played Halo 3 about 4 times on this account (new account) so thats why it is low :P

I play the game and don't think about achievements. I go back and get some of them but not all. My achievement completion rate is only 33%.

As others have said, the first playthrough of a game is normal and on the second playthrough I try to get any achievements I missed.

should a gamer feel that he/she plays games for achievements, thats fine but a little sad that thats all he/she notices, when most games have amazing design and gameplay, im glad to see a majority go after them after they finished actually enjoying the game, and even more enlightening that a fare few dont even bother, they feel either the game already is satisfying enough or that they are lame

:)

A bit of both. I'll usually check out the list of achieves before starting a game and if a couple strike me as fun or interesting, I'll shoot for those during my first play through. Otherwise, I usually just let the achieves fall where they may. During a 2nd or 3rd play-through is where I might grind out a few extra.

I usually just play. Once I get one for doing something skillful, i'll check out what all of them are. Like for RE5, alot of them are pretty easy to do and you can get them all in one playthrough without really having to stress yourself... you just have to know what they are. Stuff like killing an enemy a certain way, getting x amount of y kills. I do that type of stuff. Thing like, "play the game for 50 billion hours to earn enough to fully upgrade every weapon" ... thats the type of stuff I skip. My favorite achievements were in Lost Odyssey. Half of your party unlocks skills and the other half learns them by leeching off the others. The ones who unlock skills are pretty crappy fighters so you never really want to just be running around a dungeon with them unless there's a chance of them learning something new. You got achievements once you unlocked all the skills for each character. I went after those because it was useful and I could tell when I could get their sorry butts out of my party and start rolling with a real deal squad.

When done right, achievements encourage you to get the most out of a game by doing things you might have not otherwise thought about. Gears of War 2 and Fallout 3 are both perfect examples of this. In gears 2, there's an achievement for melee attacking 30 tickers, which is quite fun and a lot of people might have never even tried it if not for the achievement. In fallout 3, there's an achievement for making every custom weapon, which encourages you to give all those cool weapons a try.

Personaly, I prefer single player campaigns than multiplayer. Multiplayer definetly deserves its place within the game pack, but I feel the single player campaign should be the main chunk of what the player plays and gets rewarded for. There are so many games, which only a quarter of the achievement goes to the player for completing the game, and the rest is for multiplayer, and hidden eggs etc. Dont get me wrong I love anything that encourages the player to fully explore the game, but I would prefer more points for completing a game.

I will go for the ones that you can't just play the game and get sometimes. But it's for fun. I also usually go through a playthrough first also.

I go by the idea that you shouldnt consider them on your first playthrough. Even looking at the list can spoil or ruin it for you by leaving that niggling little thought in the back of your mind that you have to shoot 200 of these guys, or collect 25 of something else. After the game though, going back is always a good time.

I love the RE5 achievements. The best one is "Be the knife" for knifing a crossbow bolt out of the air. I did it on accident while breaking a barrel. I'm probably going to upgrade all weapons by the time I'm done too. I got a ton of money from playing on normal, then vet, then pro so now I have about half or more weapons maxed. I don't do the extremely time consuming achievements though like AC's flags or Crackdown's agility orbs.

I play the game then go for achieves. I get my money's worth. It doesn't feel complete unless it's 1000/1000.
