I'll admit some achievements are kinda fun to try and Ive even made up a few on my older games...just little challanges Id think of that Id see if I could pull off but I really find them kinda pointless since you don't actually get rewarded for doing them. Like no bonus game, unlockables or anything. I know people say its for bragging rights but do we all have that low a self-esteem we need to do these and get huge Gamerscores just to show off?

Im not tryng to bash them or anything and Im not comparing it to anything else orI would of posted this in System Wars. I was just wondering if/why people care so much about them.

If they are fun to get I will go get them. I got Madden 10 yesterday and me and my brother have been getting all the achievements we can practically all day today. It has been fun and I think I only have 4 or 5 left.

I, personally, care for my gamerscore. Don't ask why, because I don't know why. :?

i use to be obsessed with gettin all the achievements but thas when i just moved to a new town and had nothing at all to do. i still llike to get as many as possible cause its like adding more to the game. i feel i havent beaten the game till i have done and got all the things possible in the game, and the achievements usually have all of that

Yes and no. I don't care about the number but i find it fun to try to get the achievements once I'm done with the campaign and MP. It adds replay value because it give you goals and things to strive for

Gamerscore, no. Achievements, yes.

I don't look at people's gamerscore much, but their achievements, i do compare them to mine to see what I need to one-up my friends. I don't like having a certain game that I feel I'm better than my friends in and they have more achievements in, so I go out my way to best 'em. But other than that, the score isn't a big deal and the achievements are mostly for replay value, especially for single-player games.

I like how achievements add replay value to games. I know I would not have played games again on harder difficulties if it weren't for achievements.

Sometimes I do it for either or, Like for example I got 2 Achievements in Left 4 Dead for beating the whole game on Expert which is real difficult because youneed to be on alert at all times or you will die in less than 5 seconds, those Achievements were real satisfying on unlocking.:)

Thats what bothers me...it that when it come down to it there really is nothing to strive for because we get nothing in return.

back in the days before achievements... I went back to beat games on harder difficulties to prove I was good at the game... especially Resident Evils, Metal Gears, and Metroids... with achievements, now it's like a stamp... it's right there, telling that I beat the game on the hardest difficulty.

The point value doesn't really mean anything, but I like to try to get most of the single player achievements for games that I like. Just gives me something extra to do as long as they aren't frustrating. Like for The Orange Box, I'm not going to do the Science achievements.

Well imo you're good at any game you can beat on your own without cheats, whether it be on normal or hard difficulty. I just never thought gamers would feel this huge need to always have to prove themselves like thier seeking approval from someone.

some achievements give you a since of accomplishment, when others are like I got 10gp for going into the options menu. I can't say I ever really cared how high my GS was, but i have tryed to get achievements just for replay value.

I love them and hate them. I love them they are fun to collect and some games have really interesting achievement concepts. I hate them because I hate seeing 890/1000 and I gotta play the game again for the 1000, it's a perfectionist mindset I guess. I'm at the point where I just want to play the game and forget the achieves.

I used to be OBSESSED with getting my gamerscore as high as I could. After about 6 months of doing nothing but playing games ONLY for gamerscore..I decided to quit playing games for achievements. So, I started a new account, and i enjoy games alot better now!

I feel an addiction towards completing every game I have, and even though I only have a few games I still think it's tough work.

Gamerscore and achievements are like peanut butter and jelly... you cannot resist them! Especially when you put them in between two slices of bread and eat them!

Same. Plus it makes me do things that I normally wouldn't do, Like Nazi Zombies in Call of Duty: World at War was alot of fun. But I wouldn't have touched it if it weren't for them making achievements for it.
