Something has bothered me about the 360.

With the original version then the Falcon version and even the Jasper version, when the XBOX360 is laid horizontal the bottom of the console is very close to the shelf it's resting on. This means that the shelf itself heats up and stays warm when the 360 being used. Now I'm not a fan of that and looked for a way to put some distance between the shelf and the XBOX360 while not making it so high that the top of the console came into contact with the shelf above it.

I checked out all different sorts of risers and couldn't find anything that I trusted until I found....

HOCKEY PUCKS!

Yes, the grand puck le hock'ey is perfect for a riser.

It's made from vulcanized rubber that's exactly one inch tall which means that it's a nice solid base to put the 360. The uniform size means all 4 pucks will be alike.

Set one puck under each foot and the 360 is raised off the shelf which means it's got completely unobstructed access to air from every possible angle.

Another plus is with the Elite the black pucks add a nice fashionable platform for the console. Some pucks even feature different texture patterns so you can pick what fits your decor best.

It's not just for Elites when it comes to matching though. Today pucks come in every possible color so you can pick one to match your console or just pick a color you like, heck go crazy and get 4 different colors.

I've been using the pucks for a little over a week and the shelf underneath is ice cold even after hours of gaming.

I strongly suggest this idea to everyone.

Mines is sitting on a desk, so I have never really had an issue with that. It's a nice little tip though.

Cool and creative idea. However, you have only had the console for a week. Let us know if it is still running in 12 months. I have had four Xbox 360s and all of them have had the RROD. Got tired of returning it so now I have an empty shelf.

If you grab a new Falcon. the RROD is reduced to a 5% failure ratio, which is on par with PS3 and Wii. You can tell the difference on the 360 backside, by how many watts it reads. 178wts I think is the number for the Falcon chips. The olders ones I think read 208wts.

Except this method ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE. Putting your 360 in the fridge is just stupid.

How about a notebook cooler pad? I bought a 360 recently (it should arrive in a few days time), and I'm seriously thinking of getting one and resting my 360 on top of it.

They run for $10-20 on ebay, so it isn't costly at all. One like this should do the trick.

I tried this on my last console. It red ringed a couple weeks ago, I'm getting it back tomorrow. All that really does is keep the plastic on the bottom cool.

Just keep it vertical and have a small fan next to the exhaust of the 360 to pull more hot air away from its surroundings.

LOL. Your topic title made me laugh.

I tried putting my 360 horizontal for a while. We had concerns about the entertainment center where we keep it, whether it might be unstable and risk knocking it on the floor. I didn't have overheating problems with it, but I was concerned enough to eventually set it up vertically again. Your idea is definitely more creative though!

A 360 in the vertical position is kinda asking for trouble..

The main intake that cool air gets into the case is through the right side grill. If you have it vertically, you're blocking most of the air going in..

I never had any heat problems thanks to my BFC 9000.

Keep it flat if you love your 360

Seems like a lot of people have thought about this lol

See, I checked out all kinds of risers but they were either too high or made out of the wrong material.

You don't want something too wide either because that destroys the whole point of getting it up off the shelf.

I figure it's the best thing to use for the material and height. Plus at less then 90 cents a puck it's available to everyone on all economic levels.

what are you talking about? Im sorry if you look around, SONY and Nintendo have a failure rate of less than 1%. M$ hopes to get it to 5%. Just do some searching and you will see Im not making numbers up, I was wrong on the 5% for the other companies tho, 3-5% failure rate is the market standard.

A while back, I actually ended up using the rubber caps for the legs of metal chairs. They are only about 2 inch diameter, and they come in white. I got a pack of 4, one for each leg for super cheap. Lifted the 360 up a good inch or two off the surface, and they didn't cover much of the 360's surface.
