i personally think no. well cuz all u really need to do is just press a button and aim at a certain target. maybe it takes skill to aim idk what u guys think?kngkng21
It does take skills most of the time. If you're good enough to dodge/get lots of headshots then you have skills. But shooters aren't very hard to be skilled in(my opinion). There's a lot of shooters that you can get into very easily and that's an aspect that i love about fps. But to become really good you need to have skills.
All games take some kind of skill, that's the main reason they invented online multiplayer, instead of beating up on the AI you have real people trying to take you down. I think sports games take less skill and rely more on luck except for skate.

shooters are meant to be pick up-and-play type ames with the exception of tactical shooters. therefore, they do not require much skill to play but require varying amounts of skill to play well.
FPS takes alot of skill. Just to get the basics down is pretty hard, like the aiming and movment, how to use the wepons how to react to the weapons. ESPECIALLY in halo. than once you have that down it all comes down to teamwork, map knowledge and strategy.
If a person can be better than someone at a game that means it takes skill... its that simple

i'm guessing that you've never played Halo3 competetively....
im guessing he has, and got owned
All games take some skill, all non-fanboys can see that. Some just require more than others. When some people lose they feel the need to justify their loss not by admitting they were outplayed but rather that their opponent was lucky.
All videogames take skill, really. Some take more than others. For your average American gamer FPSs have become standard, so FPSs, generally, will require less commitment to become exceptionally skilled. Some FPSs still develop the genre further, like Bioshock, which forces you to think critically. Also, any kind of professional competition for any genre is going to require skill, obviously. Even so, FPSs aren't as consistently complex as RPGs, RTSs, etc.

You tell me one game genre that doesn't require this same thing, Fighting games, Sports games, puzzle games, even RPG's, you just have more options to customize your character, which FPS's have to some degree with weapon choices, combinations, cover systems, Teams games, and different maps. All good games require hand eye coordination, reaction, critical thinking and timing. To make a great game you must put these things into an appealing package with a good story.
Some games do....take COD4 for example...if u r a sniper, then u need more skill than if u were using a LMG, like a Saw or something.....in GRAW2, when u snipe, u dont have to hold ur breath and the sight doesnt move, and w/ the SAWs, all u have to do is hold down the trigger button.......but i think that sniping takes more skill than a LMG
thats about it though

Obviously this guy is just another anti-halo fanatic.
All of these game you mentioned take some form of skill to master. Just some more than others.
Keep in mind I love all of these games (except maybe shadowrun)
R6V- Oh yeah, it takes enormous amounts of skill to take aim at an enemy from behind cover whilst your back is turned. Give me a break, it's a campfest. And this is coming from a former ELITE rank.
GOW- One of the main reasons I left this game is because of all the shotty-runners. Then the cover function became obsolete and it was just another run-n-gun.
CoD4 (my favorite)- I believe this takes the most amount of skill. However , there are those who seek to destroy the game with their run-n-gun playstyle. Yeah, I'm talking to the ones using a P90 with steady aim and extreme conditioning. It sure is easy running around the entire map whilst pissing metal in all directions isn't it? Of course it is, otherwise you wouldn't be doing it. I tried it myself, I admit :( I know how easy it is. Not much skill if you play it that way
Shadowrun- don't get me started, I didn't like it anyway.
Halo-Of course it takes skills. Pit two halo vets armed with BRs against each other and the better on will come out on top each time because he simply has better aim. That is considered skill regardless of how bad your aim sucks.
My point is, all FPS require skill...and YES, even the ones you suck at :)
I agree with TC. No, it doesn't really. You just point and shoot. And then you hide behind object and throw grenades. It's really nothing worth bragging, smack talking or arguing over. And I think it's hillarious when people try to say it takes more skill to win in one shooter than another. Because you essentially do the same thing in all shooters.vashkey
You just point and shoot? You make it sound so easy.
That's like saying all you do in baseball is swing a bat
