For the few people who don't know what a rapid fire controller is its a 360 controller that has turbo on the triggers. I went to my cousins house recently and he just bought the Rapid Fire Controller and I got a chance to try it. I played COD world at war online and I will admit my average kills per match went up like 4 or 5 compared to when I play the game at home with my regular controller, It just felt like like cheating though. What are you guys thoughts on this?

i really feel like its cheating. if you need a hardware advantage to be sucussful on an online shooter thats pretty sad...

of course if you are using it offline or in single player that is your choice. just dont be surprised if your cousins account gets banned because people can tell you are using one.

If it gives a person some sort of advantage by using a "modded" or "reconstructed" piece of hardware, then yes its cheating. Unless its Microsoft approved :P

I wouldn't mess with it anymore then. I know a modded controller when I see one, normally CoD4/WaW pistols and Gears of War Hammerburst. You stick out like a sore thumb and you will be reported by tons of people. Hardware tampering of any kind is not something MS will take lightly.

I vote that it's cheating. Why shooters don't put a cap on semi-automatic weapons' rate of fire, I'll never understand.

They do, lol, but companies can change the mod chip and easily lower it to the maximum of the cap. Many updates for COD5 have tried to lower the cap, but it's not very hard to adjust things.

It's 100% cheating. If someone needs modded hardware to play better at a game, then they have a problem. It's the sign of a poor loser; someone who hates it when they get beaten, or someone who just hasto be in first place. Trust me, it's much more rewarding getting there legit. Try playing Battlefield: Bad Company; you'll see what I mean.

I know what you mean, dude. There was this time I almost got killed by this guy using a modded controller in Battlefield 1943. He was playing as the Infantry Class and fired all three of his rockets at me full-auto. You know what was funny though? He still missed me! Idiot. Further proof that mods still can't replace skill!

No its not cheating. A little unfair? sure...But not cheating. Im sure im not the only one who remembers buying controllers from the store that had rapid fire on them already?? Been around since 80s as far as I know.

I've never bought one and never will. It's a pathetic way to increase your average kills per game. If you can't handle rapid fire without having to use a modded controller then you are clearly cheating and seriously suck. It's just like major league players taking steroids. Personally, I think that we as a community should look down on it. Same goes with aim boots, do those even exist anymore?

Those modified controllers give an obvious advantage to the player that is unobtainable to others (unless everyone were to get them), so yes it's cheap and unfair to use that garbage. Competitive online gaming is for demonstration of skill... not cheap tricks to make people feel like they're better.

nope its def cheating and those controllers are still considered to be mod controllers even though you can buy them in stores. Lately though it has really gotten out of hand there are some really advanced modded controllers out there. Ive seen ones that still work with cod Waw and they even make real official controllers with really small stealth buttons on them so you can cheat without people know which is really low if you ask me.

Yea those great Turbo controllers back then. I had one for my Genesis because it was cheaper to buy one of them then to buy the real hardware. Usually you would turn that on and the game would glitch like crazy or lock up...something usually resulting in death or having to turn the turbo back off. It's an unfair advantage so yes it IS cheating. Running into it more and more on Battlefield Bad Company. Those players are junk that have to resort to using a controller on viagra

I thought it might be one guy firing one rocket then quickly chucking two granades.

TC i agreed with you that the rapid fire controller is cheating. The problem is some people just dont care if they cheat so they can look better. Very sad.

Any time you manipulate a game in a way it wasn't meant to be played, you are cheating.

CoD:4 example:
A. Shooting a heli down in under 4 seconds using a mod controller = cheating
B. Jumping out of the map in Ambush or in the ditch bank in Overgrown = cheating
C.Jumping on buildings in Ambush is not. It is a "tactical advantage".

Yup, I had one of those as well. But that was back when games were single-player, and I used them when I wasn't competing with anyone, just having some fun alone. When friends would come over and play Street Fighter II or something, I wouldn't use the turbo functions, as I knew it was unfair.

Its definitely cheating. Its no different than using cheat codes or whatever. There's nothing wrong with using them, as long as you're not competing directly with other people, in which case its an unfair advantage.

Precisely. I remember back in my Genesis days I had a turbo controler, and it was great fun using it. It was all well-n-good since it was singleplayer, but it's a whole different story in an online world.

That's sort of the reason I never got into PC gaming -- too much variance in equipment from player-to-player. While I had some mouse with a ball (does that sound werid?) the opponent would have a super, highspeed laser one ...

Don't even worry about it, MW2 is confirmed to disable the effect of modded controllers (by placing a maximum rate of fire).

Nope it's cheating. There are no rapid fire controllers on sale for the xbox360. In order to get one you have to crack open a controller and mod it yourself. Hence cheating, because you are altering the gameplay by modding hardware. Not sure if I can spell it out anymore. Games were single player back then, and if you used it with your friends playing Street Fighter or something they would call you on it.

It's a little different than playing SP only games on the Nes and using it only to save your fingers from getting tired in games that you had to continue to press the button the entire time.

I remember using a PS1 rapid fire controller on Legend of the Dragoon for items. You had to push the button like a thousand times to get the item to be effective, so I just turned it on and let it go. I was like 9 and thought it was the best thing in the world though. Lol.

I do agree it is cheating, but Game developers should code it better! I believe Halo 3 (or was it COD4?) that added a certain delay for all weapons. Game developers are allowing you to shoot the gun as fast as you pull the trigger, just make it so you can only shoot so many times per seconds. End of story. Blame it on the devs.

It was CoD4 they patched it. Still no patch for WaW. A modded controller in Halo just makes the Battle Rifle aiming steadier. It can't make any weapon shoot faster in Halo, but it makes the BR easier to aim while shooting because it shoots again before fully recoiling. It's pretty hard to pick out in Halo unless you watch the match from their perspective in theater. Even then it's still not clear cut.

What makes this any different than those (over)9000dpi mice that go for $100+ that PC **** rave about being able to use to "pwn n00b0rz" and having a router that has a stand-by button and light-switch raving it while playing online so everyone else lags but the (ab)user?

I can only think of 1 thing that would make it not cheating (and it is btw) but if there was an Option to play others with a Modded controller than it wouldn't be because you'd be up against the same competition....of course there is no option so until there is... /phfft. :P
