well i think all consoles should try to include BC but i have a feeling that implementing BC on then next generation of consoles is gonna be tuff for both the ps3 and 360. The hardware is specialized for both meaning that software emulation is probably out of the question and i doubt they will want to jack up the price by including the old hardware in with the new like the original ps3s.
Yep for the exact reason, I don't expect 10yrs now for many 360's to still be working and then your library would be useless. Will it happen? Unlikely MS wil try and get people to rebuy the games digitally because the console doesn't work. Sepewrathyeh because that what they did with the 360....wait, no they didnt
I would hope that it's backwards compatible, but knowing Microsoft they'll find a way to leave it out. Come the next xbox, we'll all look at 360 games as terrible anyways.gamer082009like they did with the 360? really people, what are you basing your ideas on exactly?

I agree. The only real thing I hope carries over is my Gamerscore. Or at the very least a little tab that says:
New Xbox Gamerscore - XXXXX
Xbox 360 Gamerscore- XXXXX
I worked way to hard for it to just go away once the next generation Xboxs come out.
apparently it was confirmed a while ago theyh were going to make sure that 360 games were BC. so this would come from schools of thought if we try and predict the hardware. they could go all wii and have a faster more powerful verson of essentially the same cpu,and then use a much larger version of an ati GPU. so when u drop in a 360 game, essential the xbox 720 will downlcock and turn off cores to "become" a 360 in same way a wii downclocks into a GCN. we can see at the moment that intel and AMD have the technology to do turbo boosting and core siwtch-offs, so maybe IBM can do it eventually to?
for the 360 i am anticipating a 6 core IBM PPC with two threads per core, which isn't much of a stretch fromthe tri-core we already have in our lounge rooms, but will give dev's significant breathing room for future software, as current gen software especialy on the PC don't take much advantage of multicore CPU's. 32nm IBM PPC hexa-core dual threaded CPU, coupled with 6gb DDR3 and a hd6XXX should keep us gaming in the lounge rooom for another 6 years.

Hope for the best, expect the worst. They didn't exactly do a great job with the 360's BC. at least every xbox can do bc with the original xbox even if its still some games, its the best ones on the xbox.. although i was mad they left out blinx the time sweeper :( lol if the next xbox isnt bc with the 360 but is bc wit hthe original xbox thatd be as stupid the ps3 being bc with ps1 and not the ps2... oh wait... :o
Well theres 2 routes you can go with BC
Original chipset;
pros- Will run nearly every original game at near full speed, may be able to also do original Xbox games (the only thing stopping a DS playing a gameboy game is lack of z80 chip)
cons- The 360 problems may be carried over to the 720 if they arnt fixed by then, more hardware needed, costs more to produce
Emulate;
Pros- Cheaper, contains none of the 360's hardware and the problems that come with it
Cons- Slower, and knowing MS will not be fully supported at first.
All the above are assuming that Microsoft stick with the same manufacterer of parts for the 720

Correct answer
What did the entire gaming community just see leave?
A last gen FPS that was still played in the millions (psst, it's Halo2 everybody!)
So yeah, there is no doubt that the next console will be able to play this gen's games. The ONLY reason the 360 isn't fully backward compatible is because of the hardware issues with the original XBOX. It caught everyone by surprise and they just couldn't devote the time to program emulators for the 360 to run all the games
I think it should be, but it probably wont be. The all mighty dollar will force everyone to by thier games again.
CAWZY
Again, since it didn't happen last gen you're basing this on what exactly?
They've shown they support backward compatibility yet for some reason you think they will do the exact opposite

Indeed. I think some of u guys are getting Microsoft confused with Sony.like they did with the 360? really people, what are you basing your ideas on exactly?[QUOTE="chaoscougar1"][QUOTE="gamer082009"]I would hope that it's backwards compatible, but knowing Microsoft they'll find a way to leave it out. I believe that they couldn't go for hardware-based BC for the 360 because of the disputes between them & Nvidia, as well as hardware issues like you said. Next time, it should be very different.
