Do you think Xbox live gold should be free?

In my opinion, yes. I had gold for a year but ultimately it was just paying 60 bucks for p2p online. I mean when services like Steam can serve almost the same functionality at no additional cost and with dedicated servers, what good reason can there be for Xbox live gold costing money.

Heh, its technically 4$ a month so i don't mind paying for it.

It's a simple economic principle. Demand is high, so that's why it's there. Enough people are willing to pay for it, therefore it costs money. If people refused to pay for it, then it would be free.UT_Wrestler

I've been an Xbox owner since November 15, 2001 and an Xbox 360 owners since like July 2006. I don't enjoy paying for Gold so I'm almost always Silver. Every now and then I'll pick up a month card or a 3 month card or something to play a game I really want to play online. Otherwise I'm not a fan of paying.

The fee really isn't that bad. My brother has a PS3, and I agree that the service XBL provides is better. The online play on the Wii is a joke.

That being said, I think for the $50 we should receive more features (discounted and some free DLC), but all in all, I don't mind it. It's cheaper than WoW was.

I do not think it should be free. I mean then we would get less updates then we are now, everygame would be laggy. Also all the ps3 kids would come to xbox(you know their there just becuase it's free). 5 dollers a month for gold. Cant really buy anything for 5 bucks, so sure why not?

I think online P2P should be free with Silver service, and then just add in extra features into Gold that you don't get for free.

yea if the dc ps2 ps3 wii psp ds all have free internet multiplayer 360 should to also i find it funny wii and ps3 have web browsers as does psp ds , but the 360 does not its wierd

i know it will never be free, but cheaper i could go with, its $100 a year in aust and there are no dedicated servers for match making, coupled with my sub-standard connection i get alot of lag when playing people rom the U.S

I don't like paying for gold, but I know XBL would suck w/out the subscription model.

I know this doesn' exactly make sense, but more people actually play on live w/ the subscription model than w/out it. When something is free people tend to not use it as much. W/ the subscription model players are like "if I'm paying $50 a year I'm going to get my money's worth."
