I haven't heard anything about a chess game, but they should absolutely make an updated version of Battle Chess. I used to love watching the pieces fight each other.
Yeah, there already is a chess game on the arcade. I think it'scalled Spyglass board games or something like that and it comes with chess, checkers, mancala and some other game. I don't think it got very good reviews though...

I played the demo and I thought it was lousy... I'd wait for the Chessmaster game that's coming out if you're that into it... though I imagine more people have Spyglass than will get Chessmaster, so if online play is a major factor, I'd get Spyglass I guess.
On the upside, Chessmaster usually has good AI for its opponents. It's made by people who know chess, rather than just know the rules of it.
