i got the game a while ago. ive never been a HL2 fan. actually i hate games where the Main Character doesnt speak. but everybody kept saying oh its a great deal blahblahblah plus i was sick of the same games. so i finally got the game for like 20 bucks i think. and the only reason i kept playing it was bc of the achivements.my goal was 800g. but HL2 isnt a bad game. is just that i never played the first one so i was lost the whole time. all they kept talking about was the black mesa incident and blahblah. WTF happened in black mesa?. who the hell are the combine and why gordon freeman doesnt speak at all?. maybe hes like Raj from BBT and cant talk to women...
Its not that I dont like it, but I returned it because I finished Portal, dont have XBL for Team Fortress and I thought Half Life was tedious to be honest.
Half-Life 2 is overrated, I beat the original (not episodes) but found me telling myself to beat it just to beat it, I wasn't having fun. Team Fortress 2 is hard to get into because everyone is so good, and Portal is one and done for me. For 20 bucks though, not bad. Overrated, IMO, but still not bad.

Black Mesa was basically Area 51 but a corporation backed by the government. Dr. Gordon Freeman was the scientist that placed a crystal of unknown origin in a experimental radiation(not the smartest of ideas). The combination of the crystal and the radiation caused a resonnce cascade which basically tore a hole open between multiple worlds and dimensions unleashing aliens and extradimensional beings upon Black Mesa and the world. Dr. Freeman fought his way through the Black Mesa facility fighting off monsters, headcrab zombies, and an elite cleanup crew of hardened soldiers sent by the government. He eventually learned of a creature controlling the aliens called the Nihilanth which lived in the world of Xen. With the help of his fellow scientists he was teleported to Xen where he defeats the Nihilanth and his minions. After seeing the G-man in various and unreachable locales the entire game he is finally confronted by him and offered a job. After choosing to work for the G-man, Dr. Freeman awakes and so begins Half-Life 2. The Combine came to Earth during the Resonance Cascade like many other aliens. The Vortigaunt were originally the Nihilanth's slaves and enemies in Half-Life but killing the Nihilanth freed them.
If your a fan of physics and cool stuff like that (like I am) then yes you will enjoy this game... if not, then you might not enjoy the physics engine that this game offers.
