I know XBL is a huge part of the 360 experience and all but is anyone else kind of tired of these short and/or lackluster single campaigns? Looking at the review for COD4 it almost seemed identical to the Halo 3 review: Half a page about the single player and the remaining page and ahalf about the multiplayer. I know the multiplayer aspects of those games are well done but there are some (like me) who kindof want more than "shoot for 2-3 minutes. Respawn. Repeat." Just curious if anyone else feels the same way?
It depends on the genre. Shooters, in general, don't make very good stories. But mass effect is going to be a 50+ hour single player campaign and Oblivion is a 200+ hour campaign so there are definitely longer games out there.
I actually thought CoD4's story was pretty damn good. I wont day anything for those who havent beaten it yet aside from when it gets to theend, you'll be like "WTF". Well, I was anyway.

Yeah I read that the story is actually good even though its brief. I was interested in getting it but do you think it has as much appeal ifI never plan to go online with it? Or should I maybe wait for a price drop down the line?
Get it, you have all the achievements located in the single player, and there is the arcade mode you get after you beat the game.
People say its only 6 hours, but I started it on normal and when it got rouch in certain area's I would turn it down to easy if I couldnt get past it, and I started playing around 1 with a few 15 minute breaks and I beat it around 10:30.
Yeah I do. I think it's way more fun when you are playing co-op. Probably the most fun I've ever had playing a game was when me and one of my friends stayed up all night playing R6 Vegas on co-op.
I still love a good single player. even if a game isnt that great a story can keep me playing to see what happens next. then there are game that combine a good mix between single player and multiplayer, such as gears of war and halo 3.
well shooters just arent long its normal. but the GS review is wrong ive been playing for more than 5 hours and im only about half way through COD4 they must have done a speed run on easy. id advice playing through on hardened your first time through youll at least get a good 10 hours out of the single player and halo 3 is average as well just if you run through it be short and with co op its can be non existent.
I enjoy single player in most games. When it comes to shooters i loke Rainbow Six because even after u finish the main missions there are other missions like terrorist hunts that are timed so there's a variety.
i play mostly single player, and i somewhat dislike this focus on online play or multiplayer dont get me wrong, its cool to get together a with a couple buddies and play a game, soul calibur, timesplitter etc.. are great games to play in coop or splitscreen
but i need some good single player games as well, with good stories and compelling gameplay my 360 isnt even plugged to the internet, i only plug it when i want some demoes/dlc or updates
Heck yes- right now I'm addicted to Beautiful Katamari collecting all the crap! Plus customizing a cousin with all the presents is also shamefully enjoyable.
could u help me a bit, how do u get past the part in katamari where u need get the heat, andkatamari is great for multiplayer.

i do love single player as well...i thought bioshock was great...i would've liked MP there but the single player was so ogood that it didn't need it...and mass effect and assassins creed is gonna be great single player since all it is...is single player lol
i still do, but after finally gettin on live and also playin WoW, i finally see why people love online and multiplayer, i still love a nice single player game aswell tho
ya man im with you, i miss the times when we didnt have online cuz then the game was more focused on single player, wich is the only reason i play video games
i was so dissapointed that COD 4 had such a short single player, good thing i dont pay 60 bucks for my games cuz mu 360 is modded, i wouldnt pay 60 bucks for 6 hours of fun, but it still seems like COD 4 has a great and very fun single player despite being so short, kinda like GRAW 1/2 wich i loved
but anyway, i agree man, single player is what games are all about, and i wish we had more games that didnt focus so much on online, good thing ME and assassins creed seem to be exellent and dont need online to be amazing (im guessing), also thanks for bioshock =D lol, 360 still has many great single player games but i think it wouldnt hurt the producers to take more time on single player
they seem to rush single player on shooters just to make a great online.. why do that? why not do a long great single player and a great online? i dont understand why they need to rush the games or make a half-ass campaign mode and say ''well its short but u will have many hours of fun online''.. thats not really what i wanted but i think COD 4 will be one of the best shooters this year even though it will be very short...
MOH airborne was also WAY too short, but i enjoyed the hell out of it...
Yes people obviously still enjoya good single player. Many games do not have single player, just people get upset when the single player only lasts like 8 hours, because that is really short. Especially compared to online games that last into 100+ hours.
I enjoy a nice story, and I think developers put too much effort into multiplayer and not enough love into the single player games. It seems that every shooter nowadays is all multiplayer. I miss the old days when games had nice stories and long, rich campaigns.
evryone who likes story should get orange box it has three half life game then it has portal which is a lot of fun. for the people who ike mp the is team fortress 2.
Nope. Well, maybe I would enjoy a good one. But there really aren't many good ones. I've probably only really enjoyed 2 single player games in my life. Bomberman 64, and.. I don't know what else, but there probably was one more.
