I am very close to getting an Xbox 360 but just saw the new Crysis demo and WOW. It dwarfs anything on the 360...can the 360 handle a game like this? Have the same type of graphics/physics?
Thanks

PC's will always be a few steps ahead of consoles because they are upgraded easily. You would need to spend thousands of dollars to run Crysis on your PC.

Remember most of what we have seen has been in DX9 mode, the 360 has full DX9 and some DX10 capabiltys, so technically in its state now Crysis could be done, at that framerate...........now on the 360 probably not. It will take a while to get that kind of performance out of the machine considering they still havent gotten all the power for the Multi Core CPU. Could Crysis be done in its current state........in time yes, can Crysis be done when it is finalized, running at 60+ fps in full DX10 mode...........sadly no.

PC always has time (more time than the 360) to evolve graphics wise but unfortunately most are not able to keep up with buying a new graphics card and a new hard drive and a 700 dollar system.
like the previous poster said, PC gaming will always have a slight graphical edge because of the pace its moving. Computers get newer more powerful parts for upgrade practically every few months. It's quite expensive to catch up sometimes, but well worth it when developers take advantage of the tech.
As for the 360 being outdated, unlikely and hardly. It more or less equals the PS3 in graphics output and the PS3 just came out in europe.. so dont worry. If you go out and buy a 360.. it will serve your gaming needs for years to come.
no it doesn't, if you look at games like far cry vengence's water and physics engine in Star Wars the force unleashed you'll see that it compares to crysis if a game came out with more destructibles. And if you look at the PS2 and Xbox you see at first the graphics are CRAP on both consoles but the PS3 and the 360 are only 6-18 months old so... A game like crysis or crysis will probably come out on both consoles, and also look at games like Mass effect or MGS4 those have awesome graphics.

But you know most PC gamer will play it on a DX9 card on Vista. Besides, Crysis is no where near real DX10 but everyone else don't feel that way. Well, at least Crytek get their hypes.
Yes I explained that, in this current mode e.g. DX9 mode the 360 could run Crysis. But soon they will implement more DX10 features into the game which the 360 does not have. Of course Crysis isnt getting the best out of DX10, that is impossible, similar to a console the DX10 software will take a while to get into full stride, but still, at max the 360 can not do some features Crysis for PC will have in DX10 mode.

DX10 has no more features than DX9. Everything you have seen running in DX10 can be run in DX9, all DX10 does is make performance much MUCH better that is why we see better effects because, developers can push more polygons, have more particles etc. at not much loss in performance compared to DX9. So 'technically' crysis is possible on the 360, it's just lots and lots of optimisation would have to be done and even then it may not be powerfull enough. It isn't a case of DX.a platform isn't "outdated" just because it isn't the leading tech of the day. games are not all hardware and graphics...if you only like pretty games, you don't really like games...just visuals.
god of war proves that all consoles can live long lives long after their tech is surpassed.

Very good point.
It could probably run on a 360. The new game coming out called Warhound is full DX10, so I don't see why that would be a problem for Crysis...Shrapnel99And I bet the 360 could handle all that fully destructible enviro stuff too, its just a matter of the devs getting more used to 360 hardware and pushing it further, cubbiesx makes a good point cause games on that thing have improved amazingly since the early days, when i got black i was really confused how my aging machine could churn out graphics like that, but that just proves that its more about the programmers than the hardware
Well, considering that the 360 costs 400 bucks and the kind of PC you'd need to run Crysis at higher settings would costs thousands, I'd say the 360 is doing just fine. With a console you pay to NOT have to upgrade it for 5 years. Crysis will probably be ported to the 360 and it will look damn good if the devs put some time into it. Don't get it twisted, the 360 is extremely powerful, it can handle a lot.I am very close to getting an Xbox 360 but just saw the new Crysis demo and WOW.
