Since my post is kinda long, I am going to sum up my main complaints into three main bullet points:
1. The save system: Does adding multiple save slots REALLY make it easier, or is it just as annoying?
2. Do you still have to "pad" you level for the game to be manageable? I mean, is it concievable to play the game from level 1 your first time and get through the story and a few of the scoop missions without any trouble?
3. Do the psychos and bosses improve? I mean, in this game they feel pretty cheap, with some BS tactics that seem designed to make it unecessarily difficult. They could have bee challenging, but now they just feel unfair (Carlito with the sniper, The Hatchet Man are two great exampels... believe it or not, Adam was really easy for me).
4. Basically, does the game feel like an improved version of the original, or just more of the same with a few flashy new mechanics, but all the same issues it had before?
Okay, so right now, I am trying to get through Dead Rising 1. Don't get me wrong, the game mechanics are awesome, the ability to use basically anything as a weapon is humorous (if ultimately useless in 90% of the situations), and the mission structure cuts it a little close (they could have given me more time on one or two of the main cases) but is still really enjoyable and pushes the game along at a good clip.
The problems I have with Dead Rising can really be summed up into two categories. Number one, I felt as if the save system really hindered me. For instance, let's say I start a new case, and then I go to do some scoops, and I don't give myself enough time to get back, but I save without knowing that. Then, I am screwed. This very nearly happened (I had literally seconds left). I know the new game has multiple save slots, but does it really fix the issue? The fact that you have to save in a bathroom doesnt really bother me, since they are all over the place, but the map can be a little difficult to navigate too, making them tough to find.
My other issue is that I felt as though I was at a distinct disadvantage because I didn't "pad" my level. What I mean is, I didn't use the introduction trick of just constantly doing the first part of the game in the entrance plaza with your camera to level up into my 20s-30s, and played the game starting at level 1. I am now level 12, and honestly, I really like the feel of constantly getting stronger, getting new moves, stuff like that. However, I feel as though some of the Scoop missions were designed for people higher level. The Hatchet Man is a really good example. I honestly felt as though, at level 10 (which is where I was then) that mission was damn close to impossible, and after 1 try, I never went back. The reason is that he took out 5 of my life in ONE hit. I had Adam's freaking chainsaw, but he did some BS close combat move and took out 5 health. When he was up on top of the damn stacks he was chucking grenades too quickly for me to line up a shot with my handgun.
Idk... The issues I listed at the beginning of the post are the things that really detract from my love of this game. I went in with really low expectations, because all I had heard from people is that the ONLY enjoyment in this game is saying screw the main story and just kill zombies. I honestly don't believe that now, but still, does the sequel fix most (or all of these issues) or does it just fall into the same traps as the original?
