Glad I'm not the only person who felt that way. I couldn't stand the controls of that hovercraft piece of crap. That whole section was boring to me. I'm thinking "Best PC game of all time?" the entire way through. Don't worry man, you're not the only one. And to answer your question, the next section (the section I'm currently on) is much funner. Hopefully I won't get stuck in that annoying hovercraft again. And I've also heard that Episodes 1 and 2 are MUCH better than the original game.

Sweet, thanks. Now I look forward to finishing this boring part and going on to have some fun.
[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]Half-Life 2 boring? Blasphemy! I don't see how anyone could find it boring, but to each their own.Jbul
I was kinda bored by the first part too. The game was really showing its age. But Ravenstown (I think that's the name) is a lot better.
It still plays better and tells a story better without cutscenes than any other game currently. I don't think it's showing its age.

i found it EXTREMELY BORING, i brought it back today
I like the atmosphere on the PC back when it game out. So just the traveling parts, realistic physics, just pulled me into the game. Though, some vehicle sequences were a bit too long.
One thing I didn't like about the game, was the story. The whole thing felt like point A to point B. Just as things start getting good at the opening of game, you are seperated, don't think that's a spoiler. So, a lot of it, it's without mission objectives, just that you are on the run, and hope to meet back up with the to continue the game. When you finally do, you realize you pretty much completed the game except for few unique levels at the end. So when you play, don't expect to meet up with anyone for the story to really continue until near the end. You do might meet up with people on the way to help you, but nothing really important to the main story line.
Not again to say it isn't fun along the way.

I've never played the PC version, and am a fan of the genre (FPS). Not impressed with the first 3 hours. Like I said, it's starting to pick up.
people that suck at games always fined them boring i bet you think halo is "Tha Uber Pwnd Bestest Fun Eva" yea baby halo::roll:Benifited
Lol actually I do think Combat Evolved is the best FPS I have ever played. Again I dont have a big back round in the genre. Iv only played two PC FPS's in my youth, Outcast and Wolfeinstien. So Halo was my first moder day FPS and I loved it. Half Life 2 in my opinion suffered from to many pacing issues.
I feel sorry for you guys who just don't get it. For those of you who never played the 1st Half-Life, and judge a game on whether or not it's Halo enough for you. If you're playing Half-Life 2 you should be amazed at the level of immersion, atmosphere, story, the whole shabang. If you're bored, you're probably better off just stopping and going back to mindless shoot em up games.

Wow. First of all I played through HL1 three times. I'm not amazed bt the level imersion or the atmosphere, it's nic, but there are many, many games that does it better. The story is pretty much non existant compared to the more involving RPG's and games such as Bioshock. Half Life is cryptic and confusing and often makes little to no sense, there was no concusion to the story, it doesn't start or end anywhere and there isn't much story going on while playing the game other than walking around and looking at whats going on around you.
Going back to "mindless shooting up games" because I don't find HL2 as amazing as you do? Just because people don't agree with your opinion or doesn't like what you like does not mean they have no taste at all. There is in fact a huge amount of games that offer great stories other than HL2 wether you agree to it or not.
half-life gamesare the best first person story driven games ever. you're F@ingcrazy if you're bored playing this any of the half-life games.
the first few levels are sort of like tut levels to teach you about the physics puzzles and introduce you to the enemies. once you get to ravenstorm though, BAM PURE AWESOME from their on.cdstackeryea i agree, i really like the nova prospect level its one of the best levels in the game IMO.

Well said.
I don't like much Half-Life, the Orange Box is a good deal, though. I have episode 1, and well, it was ok but I really got bored. I left it and started to play Counter Strike Multiplayer. It was an innovative game when it was released, and it's good, but many games are now good as it, so you just can't be praising Half-Life all the time as if it is the only one. It's just not fair for others.
Personally Half Life 2 was the best experience Ive ever had as a gamer, but I can understand that it isn't for everyone. As far as the hovercraft section, I thought it was a little difficult to get used to the way it controlled, but after 5-10 minutes I really enjoyed it. Try and remember the first time you ever drove the warthog in Halo. I remember the ammount of times I span in circles and mis timed turns until I finally got used to it, and now it is natural.
I'm playing Half Life 2 right now, and I'm not all that impressed. It's pretty addictive, but just sort of boring at the same time. Right now I'm just driving around in that thing and trying to shoot down a helicopter. Anyways, does it get more fun?1vgfan
You're still in the beginning of the game, and yes, it gets MUCH better. Trust me.

Agreed. And there's something to be said for appreciation, even if the game is not your thing. Games are an art form.
Based on some of the replies here, it would seem that some people here are offended if someone doesn't enjoy Half Life, saying crap like "go back to your mindless, twitchy FPS" or, "you must suck at games", and that's so stupid. Just because someone doesn't like Half Life doesn't mean that they only like "mindless" shooters, and to say that is ignorant and immature.
I'm not Half Life's biggest fan, and I don't currently have plans to buy the Orange Box, but I'm definitely not a mindless shooter lover. When people say that, I assume they are referring to Halo, and I'm not even a Halo fan. I'm actually much more into BioShock then Halo and I'm sure you're not going to call BioShock mindless. Furthermore, even if someone did like a so-called mindless shooter more, there's nothing wrong with it like those kinds of comments would suggest.
It seems like most people have a word, classification or overall rude comment to say if someone doesn't enjoy what is supposed to be the popular game at the moment, and that's just sad. So what if someone doesn't appreciate the same games as you? Why does that entitle you to say stupid things? Well it doesn't, and it just makes you look bad.
And it's not like anyone here was saying it sucked, or they hated it, and no one was really talking poorly of it, but rather stating that they found it a bit boring, yet some people here were quick to pounce and tell them to go back to their mindless shooters. People don't always like what I like, but I never bash them for it because there's nothing wrong with a difference of opinion, at least in my eyes.
I can see what makes Half Life a good game, I just never found it particularly fun, but I recognize why it would be popular. You can argue all day what Half Life is/was to shooters back in the day, and maybe it still is, but that doesn't mean that everyone will enjoy it, and just because they don't doesn't mean they should be put into some stupid generalization.
I was hesitant to rent/buy this on original xbox because it seemed dated (+framerate/physics issues) and now I'm REALLY concerned even though I think I would've loved it if I could've played it when it first came out on PC. The plot is right up my alley.pinionxl
Physics issues? WTF are you talking about. HL2 has the best physics i've ever seen. Source engine is amazing. If your talking about the original Xbox version of it.....i didn't figure it would be different, but I'm gonna assume thats what your talking about.

Quoted for truth..
People need to read my blog on how I feel about some gamers and their tendancy to deny someones opinion. Theres not a damn thing that says that "Someones opinion is better than another" so people need to get real and quit abiding by this hidden standard that says 'Half-Life 2 is supposed to be liked by everyone.'
Played Ep 1 and HL2 on the PC, waiting for the european release of Orange Box for Ep2. Personally HL2 is one of my fave games of all time. The story is good acton is brill, and at the time gfx wer top notch. Aint seen te bumped gfx in orange box, but i cant wait!
Everyone to their own though
Some people's opinions ARE better than others. A more educated, unbiased, objective opinion is MUCH better than someone's ignorant, hateful, personal opinion.
All I said is, even if the game isn't your cup of tea, you have to at least be able to sit back and recognize it's well-deserved accolades, games get popular for a reason. It is overall appreciation for people's hard work that alot of people are lacking these days.
i dont understand how someone could find this boring...i've been waiting to play Half-Life 2 for 4 years now...i was scared it would feel dated at this point...but its mindblowing, better than most shooters even coming out now.
its an incredible game thus far...2 hrs in and loving it

Hey, that's exactly how I feel about Halo 2 and 3s SP and Gears MP when I come on here and say I'm let down, bored and/or they have issues.

Halo was one of the worst FPS games I actually played through. The story and action were decent enough to keep me going through the game, but the fact that it has hours of recycled levels just sets me off. Andin Halo you're basically using the same weapons the whole time, aside from a Scorpion mission and driving around in a Warthog.
Half-Life 2 introduces new vehicles, weapons, and tools you can use that provide very different styles of gameplay throughout the entire game - it's basically always changing, and always keeps you on your toes. I honestly don't know how anyone can be bored of Half-Life 2 when they get to the hovercraft area. The pacing of the very beginning is rather frantic since youre running from the Combine, and I found all the hovercraft areas to be rather entertaining.
But some people like different things. The thing to look forward to in HL though is that no level is too long and the gameplay is constantly changing, so if you're bored of a certain area, you'll probably get through it in a couple hours and you'll be on to bigger and better things :)
I have to agree, when I played Halo 1, it was plain and boring. Ok, you can drive vehicles, but the gameplay was nothing new to PC shooters. Half life 2 was great fun, but the first little bit it straight forward and boring. You only really have a small part on the hovercraft and once you beat that, it starts getting more fun and tactical. The battles to come get really fun, and hard sometimes, so keep playing through and you will enjoy it more i'm sure.
It may not be your favorite game of the year, but chances are it will be enjoyable for you.
