i would recommend registering it, but i dont think it really matters that much...if it ever breaks, when you call microsoft to get it fixed, they will look it up under their system to see when the system was distributed for sale, and u will get 3 years from that date...but it doesnt hurt to register it so why not

Just buy the warranty from the store you bought your 360 from. Futureshop, or Bestbuy offer 3 year warranties for $55 in Canada here. My dad used his "gold visa" or something like that, and got 1 year free extra. With $55, I got 4 years of warranty, and my 360 usually breaks in 1 year tops, so they do all of this stuff. Registering has never even come into my thoughts.
I think one advantage of registering it straight away, along with proof of when you bought it, is that your 1yr/3yr warranty will start from your purchase date rather than from date of manufacture - kinda helpful when consoles can be sat in stores rooms for some time before getting sold. I bought mine in July 2007, but it was manufactured Nov/Dec 2006.
