Does Master Chief die in HALO 3?

I saw a new print ad in the latest EGM. It has Master Chief running alone on a treet with gun. Above him it reads, "A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him."

What do you think, a hint maybe? I think it would be fitting for him to go out in some self-sacrificial way. Plus, it frees Bungie from the HALO series for a while, but doesn't close the door on the character since you can always explore his past, origin, etc.

If he does it'll be in an incredably epic way, like throwing himself into a generator core and blowing the main covenant ship. Or a suicide run where it's him and the final leader of the covenant and they both barrel towards each other guns a blazing, both getting shot and MC killing the leader and falling to the ground bullet holes all over and then Cortana pops up and is like

Cortana: You're....

MC: I know, It was meant to end this way.

And then the Master Chief turns into dust and a strong wind picks up his remnents as "Dust In The Wind" plays in the backround. And then in the backround all the Marines take off their hats and place them onto their hearts as a final drum beat hits and then the screen turns to black...

Was the last line truly neccesary?

Yes, it's going to end with him right above Earth in space in some dropship thing. While right down on that spot below him on Earth, is a massive mobile coveneant force, about to wipe humanity, Master chief is about to leap out with a bomb, like in halo 2, but its a nuke this time. Before he jumps out to sacrifice himself by landing with a nuke on the massive covenant fleet on the surface, Cortana tells him she's never seen his actual face. Then the Masterchief is like, "it's not who I'am underneath, but what I do, that defines me." Then leaps out with the bomb into space, with powerful celtic-halo style music playing sadly, as he floats down to his fate.

In all honesty, do we care? Before you discredit me this is not a Halo bash, but more along the lines of a plot bash. What connection do we have with Master Chief besides the fact that he's a Spartan on a mission to kick some ass and forgo the names. We haven't seen his face so we can't have a personal connection with the superhuman, his dialogue is limited to one liners etc so we have no character depth. If he dies I can say I won't care because to me it'll be like shutting down a robot. I'd say a cooler ending would be for him to win and then have no idea what to do next. No covenant, no heroes needed, just a super soldier with no more battles to fight. Now that would be interesting.PyleA

are you kidding me? not seeing his face makes the connection that much deeper. it adds mystery to the character, and should only make you want to know more about him. but the idea of him living and being a weapon that has out lasted his purpose is a cool concept aswell.

Whats with all this killing the Covenant stuff? They are just bit players in the story.

If the Chief goes, its got to be in some epic self sacrifice that puts an end to the Flood and the halo's once and for all.
