1) Broken bartering system. Can you trade and buy from the same merchant with the same items... basically stealling all their gold (and leveling up)?
No, but it's broken in anotehr way. The merchant has a gold limited and you can sell an unlimited amount of gear for that maximum.
2) Does everyone in the whole game carry lame stuff? I mean really, by the time you have leveled up your character a little and can kill some pretty fancy people I should be able to expect them carring some serious stuff like me. Not bottles and fungi.
Yes, eventually everybody has daedric armor, glass etc etc.
3) Paperboy quests. I'm the hero of the land right... so why again I'm I running errands for some nobody? Because I'm a nice guy? This quirk is one that is low on the list of annoyances seeming I can ignore it an all...
Just dont do the quest that you think atre beneath you?
4) A house that I can buy / own and call my own. Can I settle down and enjoy life? I believe I have heard that this one is fixed. But I thought it was lame that I just wandered everywhere in Morrowind and the only way to 'get one' was to empty it and no one noticed... if you get my drift.
You can buy houses.
5) Does the main quest force you to be enemies with a sect or group that would actually be fun to be friends with? I should be able to finish the main quest and still be able to 'eat my cake' too.
Yes.
6) Can you pick up some good armor and sword early on and never have to upgrade for the rest of the game? Really, in Morrowind you can just knock off a guy at some Daedric shrine and there you go endless money to do exploit #1 above, or you just got armor you never have to upgrade until late in the game.
You can but you need to know the location and then it's your own fault.
7) Is there a journal, or objective tracking, system that doesn't suck? I'm not flipping through endless amounts of pages to piece together what I'm doing next if I took a couple of days / weeks off.
Quest log instead of an actual journal.
So I'm not asking if Oblivion is good or not, I'm asking if these 'features' exist in the game. I'll make my own decision from there. Thanks,
alright then, I wont give you my opinion.
1. not sure. Just don;t cheat if it bothers you.
2. No. weapons and armor etc upgrades as you gain in levels.
3. these are there
4. yes.
5. not that I remember.
6. You could go kill umbra, but she's really really hard.
7. This is the best change. Everything is pretty well organized and the map shows you where to go on the quest you select as being current.
1) Not really, but you can rob their shops and sell it to thieves guild fences. In theory you can pickpocket, but that's not quite as clean and easy as it sounds.
2) There are good items later on in the game, and the Enchants are what really makes the weapons. Enchants to weapons/armor can be done once you get recommended for the Mages Guild.
3) You aren't the hero YET...just like every game, you gotta be the errand boy to reach the top. But it's really not so bad, Most of the errand quests are side quests, so stick to the main quest if you don't want to worry about any of that.
4) Absolutely. There's a house in every city that is available for purchase. The house is yours once you buy it, it will have containers/dressers all kinds of things to store your items.
5) Not off the top of my head, but some of the best items come from the main quest, and you actually have to turn some of those back in, in order to progress. Sometimes it's better to just hold onto those items and hit some side quests and get rich for a while. Continue the main quest a little later on.
6) Exploit wise, not really. There are of course things like Umbra, many say it's the best sword in the game. If you track her down, it's basically just a NPC standing in a cave. Kill her and take her sword. You can reach her at level 1, if you look up where she's at. Nobodys forcing you to go get her sword though.
7) The quest/journal in oblivion are great. You can't really get lost. Look through your active quests and click on one, then a Red dot will show on your compass telling you the direction to go. The red dot stays until you find your objective. You can easily take a long break from the game and come back and be right on track.
The money exploit your worried about doesn't really exist unless you go looking for it(And there's none that I use/know of). Most of the time it's just easier going out and getting money through Dungeons(reselling) and alchemy. But it's up to you how you play the game. That's the best part about it.
Good luck, hope I helped you in your decision.

Why make it harder on myself - the devs sure didn't. Game rules were meant to be beaten, not necessarily followed... There are things that are actual 'cheats' but in this case... that's just crappy programming and play testing. Really in real life, if you could walk up to the richest man in the world and buy and sell him his own copy of a computer OS at a $50 gain every time... wouldn't you? Seems reasonable to me. Luckily (or unluckily) real life isn't so dumb.

So can you buy and sell the same gear over and over at a 200 gain both ways? As long as the cost is under the merchants 'max'?
If you sell something to him then you can buy it back for more. And you wont increas ethe sellers limit if you buy stuff so you cant sell expensive items and get 100.000 gain or something. So cheating is out but unrealim is in since every merchant ahs a maximum. For example: I have two sword, one worth 300g and oen worth 1100g. I sell them both to a merchant that as a 1000g, I get 300 for the first and 1000g for the other. The sellers gold will enver chance, not from buying and not from selling.

Negative. Increasing your Mercantile to 100 will allow the merchants to carry more gold. And also if you stick to selling to the same merchant over and over, he will carry more gold to buy your stuff.
But no, there's no real way to exploit a merchant to get more money out of him. Sure There's things like Alchemy. Buy an apple for 4 and a loaf of bread for 2, mix them for a potion that sells for 18. But vendors don't stock unlimited ingredients. So it kind of evens out.

But even the alchemy thing is reasonable. You pay more for bread than just flour, water, and yeast. What you are describing seems like you need to go get something more to sell to earn more gold, which is still reasonable, it means looting and searching for stuff actually has value now.Ohhhh, nono there's none of that. Actually you'll find that vendors wont pay you enough for your rares. Since early on they only carry 1200 Gold max, (Until you raise your mercantile/speechcraft etc) A lot of items are worth well more than that.
The best way to earn gold is really just hitting Dungeons/Oblivion gates, cast a spell like Feather so you can hold a lot more items. Horde it all, go drop it off at your house and make Selling trips to the different merchants.
There's nothing you can abuse, but don't worry, there are plenty of ways to earn money...Arena is a good one.
Most of the Glitches/Dupes/Exploits you will find on the Internet for Oblivion have been patched. I really don't know of any working ones that are still in the game.
