I ask because I recently received an email saying Microsoft will automatically update my 1 year XBox Live subscription on January 2008, but I signed up for gold membership back in October! What gives? Are they trying to charge me double or do I have to pay gold membership on top of the yearly XBox Live subscription fee?

Well I just checked out online and they sell 12 month gold subscription cards for $49.99/year:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Microsoft-Xbox-Live-Gold-12-Month-Membership-Card/sem/rpsm/oid/138276/catOid/-13861/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

This tells me I must somehow be paying double because my subscription shouldn't be renewing itself in January 2008 when I signed up for gold on October.

you pay 49.99 / year for Gold membership.

sometimes the emails from XBL is off. I renewed my subscription in November, accidently on a credit card that expired in October. I didn't get an e-mail until December saying my credit card had expired.

Are you sure you didn't get a 3 month card instead of a year one?

Why don't you just check your credit card statement and see?

Xbox live Silver is free, but you don't get to play with other people online. Xbox live Gold costs $49.99 / Year, but you get to play with other people.

Alright, well I checked and it says, "Debit Card MICROSOFT *XBOX L ONE $49.99." This was done on 9/10/07. I decide to check my XBox Live console membership and it does idneed list me as a 12-month membership and on the "modify membership" it states my next bill date is "09/2008."

Basically the email is COMPLETELY wrong. No doubt about it, so what Imperial Agent says is the likely case, that the email is screwed up. I did renew my credit card about six months ago, so maybe this email is pertaining to my old credit card? If so does that mean they're going to charge me $49.99 extra unless I do something or do I not need to worry?
