Before you do that you may want to call them. They usaully send off a box for you to send it off in, free of charge.

Listen to what everyone is posting, you must have heard the tech guy on the phone wrong. They will always send you a White box large enough for your 360 with supports and a plastic bag for it so it does not move around while in transport. They also send it pre-paid if its the Red Ring of Death. Call Microsoft 360 Support again, and re-confirm it, and make sure to ask about the box.

I don't think it matters what colour it is as long as it's not in the actual xbox box as i was told by microsoft not to do so because of the risk of it being stolen

They can send you a box, or you can send it in one, but it cant be damaged from shipping when they get it. The box colour does not matter, they send a white one, but you can use brown also.

MS Sends you a Coffin. Don't worry about finding a box to send it back in. That's why you always call them the second it breaks, so they can't get the Coffin to you right away.

Microsoft will send you a box with instructions. The entire process took only 2 weeks for me.

they told me that I have to print out a label...why? I don't have the 3 red rings of death, I have to pay $100 for the damn thing, even though their website says "$94". I don't have a printer anymore because I never used it.

You don't need to use an MS box, I didnt. Just put it in a box with some bubble wrap and your return address. Then pop a printed return label on. That took me 15 minutes to do, as opposed to several days waiting for a box.

Box doesn't have to be brown, it can be any color, so long as it doesnt have the Xbox logos all over the front of it that screams "STEAL ME".  Microsoft will either ship you a box with shipping material and pre paid labels, or, they will just give you an online pre paid label to print, and you'll have to provide your own box.  The first time my Xbox broke I didn't complain to them, I just set up my repair and shipped it to them in my own box with newspaper packaging.  The second time it broke, I complained to them because it broke on the same day I received it, and this time they sent me the white box with overnight shipping labels that I requested.
