Just curious to know - it is HD but does the HD-DVD add-on require that an HDTV be used to play the HD-DVD movies?

Well since Xbox 360 does not require HDTV, what would happen if I did try to play an HD-DVD movie on standard definition?

If you don't have an HDTV I don't see the point in buying the HD-DVD add-on since, ya know, it's meant for people that want to watch videos in High Def.

So I guess what you are saying is that an HD-DVD played on a standard TV would be the same quality as a standard DVD, right?

HD DVD played on a standard TV wouldn't even display properly since the HDDVD is intended to be displayed at a minimum 720p resolution. My cousin has an EDTV which is 480p and the image was very blurred when we tried to use the HDDVD add on with his 360.

Yes. =P I don't want you to waste unnecessary money on the HD-DVD add-on when you don't have an HDTV.

It will still work at 480p but there's absolutely no point in having that.  Just use the built-in DVD player for the same picture quality.

the diffrence would be marginal.  detail will be slightly better,  but its really ment for high def tv.  so yea better quality then dvd but will not see the whole diffrence if you where watching on a hd tv.

I think I have also noticed that reading the in-game text is rather hard on a standard television. You know, in Call of Duty 3, the names that appear on the left side to denote each kill that is made. Also in Gears of War it is hard to read players names when they are dead as they are crossed out.

It will not be better quality. It will be downscaling a 1080p image to 480i on a standard TV and to 480p on an EDTV (enhanced definition). It could potentially look worse than a standard DVD due to the downscaling, but certainly not better.
