Does the size of a television matter for video games?

Hi,

I'm considering getting a 1080p hd tv for xbox 360 games but am wondering why people spend money for larger televisions if the resolution is the same. I wouldn't mind sitting very close to the tv in order to see the minute detail on a 24'' tv. Does anyone have experience with large vs small tvs with xbox games when they are both 1080p?

I really don't know where else to ask this question. I think it is loosely related to the xbox so I hope this topic doesn't get taken down.

It depends on the resolution that the tv offers, but for televisions bigger is almost always better.

try playing a newer game on a standard definition TV. cant hardly read anything.

A really big tv gives that immersive feeling. I like to feel like I am in the game or in the movie.

I play on my 1080p mointor at my desk, and on my 1080p 42" tv on a couch. I notice a bit more detail when I'm up close, but I do have bad eyes and the comfyness of couch cannot be ignored.

My crazy friend plays on teh same 42" tv at a distance of 2 feet on a bar stool.

Not entirely true, it also depends on how far you are from the TV and how good your vision is.

Quality of the tv, hdmi connection, size of tv in relation to viewing distance...

i game on a big tv i cant go back to a smaller tv.

I game mostly on a 61", but feel that it is too big. I would like to downgrade to a 32" or so.

Size doesn't matter. It's whether or not you know how to use it.

Quite frankly mate, it's like saying a guys penis size doesn't matter when it comes to satisfying a woman in bed. You can play it on your big fat grandma's TV which hasn't seen High Definition in it's dream. You can even try split-screen on that small crap. Somewhat. Personally I find games more immersive and enjoyable on a bigger screen, but it's really a matter of preference.

I disagree mate. I once had a Samsung plasma that was just too big. Instead of giving me gaming pleasure it gave me a headache. I ended up returning it for a smaller one.Rob1447

Right now I have a 42" Panny Plasma, and now I'm looking into possibly getting the newer ST-50 65" Panny Plasma. While my Dad uses a Panny Projector thats 100". Why, because it's more immersive, and everything is huge. Today expecially when prices have gone down. I can get that ST-50 for a about 300-400 more than what I paid for my 42" 5 years ago. Playing Mass Effect 3 on that 100" is completely different experience than playing it back home on my little 42".

So the prices on Good Quality sets coming down is allowing more people to be able to go bigger.

For purely gaming, larger televisions can be a detriment because your eyes have to travel a further distance to notice small details. There's a reason you don't see people playing on giant tv's at competitive gaming events.

If you're just sitting on a couch and playing casually though, I guess large tv's can be impressive.
