No it doesn't. MS or any corporation wouldn't make a console that had the capability of standing or laying if one was way better for your console then the other. What about disc scratching, you say? Lies, my 360 hasn't eaten a Disc yet, faulty 360's will scratch discs whether they are standing or laying. It's life, welcome to Microsoft. Just keep it in an open area and youll be good. Deal? Deal.
I have read in numorus places that the vertical stance of the 360 causes undue strain on the disc drive, causing the motor that spins the disc to prematurely burn out....I am not saying this has happened to me, and I am too lazy to figure out where I read this, I was wondering the same thing when I got my 360, and looked online, thats where I found this. Understand that this is possibly just coincidence, with some people, and to my knowledge completely unsubstanciated, but it was enough for me to just put mine horizontal.
I have kept mine vertical since day 1. I have had it since launch and have never had a single problem.I also keep my PS3 and Wii vertical, also launch items.Never had a problem with any of them.
the guy at the store i bought it from told me to put if vertical. and i had it like that for a few weeks. but i just hated having to put the cds in sideways so i put it horizontal. i found that they both work but when it is horizontal it doesnt make as much noise.
