[QUOTE="Large_Soda"][QUOTE="g5velocity"][QUOTE="Nercon98"] But it will upscale WITHOUT the HD DVD player? Im not jumping into the format wars until they're over ( Im not getting the betamax again....) but I have a 1080p TV and I want to know if my 360 will upscale DVDs to 1080p w/HDMI by itself...

No, it absolutely DOES NOT upscale whatsoever.
Now it's my turn to lie. Human's don't need oxygen to live!
that comment was not needed. He's not lying, it's just an unclear answer. I've been looking over google and other sites and I've found different answers to his question, even from the Xbox site. Originally they said a 360 wouldn't upscale, but now it looks like the elite may with VGA or HDMI. If I were you I'd keep looking for a clearer answer.
If I were me, which I am, I wouldn't look anywhere because I KNOW that the 360, in all shapes and flavors DOES upscale with VGA and HDMI. That guy is lying, or at least severly missinformed because the 360 does support that.
From Xbox.com:
A common buzzword in 3-D circles nowadays is "1080p," which refers to the highest possible HDTV resolution available: 1,920 x 1,080 pixels at 60 frames per second (fps). Only a portion of today's HDTVs even support this resolution, but if yours does, Xbox 360 can display games, HD DVD**, and even upscaled DVD video in full 1080p glory+. Of course, other resolutions such as 1080i, 720p, and a variety of LCD monitor resolutions are available as well. The maximum available resolutions for your set depend on how you connect it to your Xbox 360:
ConnectionGames HD DVD DVD HDMI 1080p 1080p 1080p* VGA 1080p 1080p 1080p* Component 1080p 1080i 480p S-Video 480i 480i 480i* Upscaled from 480p
That table didn't show up right but check the link.
