Does overheating an xbox reset everything and sometimes fix the red lights? A friend told me to unplug all the cords except for the power cord, wrap it up in towels and wait till it overheats and shuts itself off, then wait an hour for it to cool down and turn everything back on. Is this true?

I've seen people do it on youtube, but that isn't exactly the most reliable of all sources.

If you don't have a warranty for it.. it's not worth the 100 Dollars. Just Google how to do it yourself... I've done it once 2 years ago and been fine since!

Well if the warranty sticker is still intact..

Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and they will send you a box to ship it for FREE. Yeah they will do it all for free and when you get it back in a week or 2, it will be a new one/refurbed to greatness as well as 1 month live free.

If your out of warranty don't send it to microsoft, and don't do the towel trick. It isn't reliable, it could work for only 30 minutes to a week like the guy above me said. Try doing it yourself using directions from youtube, im pretty sure all you have to do is take something out, or find a company on the internet that will do it for less, i know there are some.

It will cause more damage to your 360 in the long run. Yes it may fix the RROD for a small amount of time, but your heating up the insides of your box way more than they are supposed to. If heat is what caused the system to RROD in the first place then what can you expect from heating it even more and even hotter than before? Just more damage.

It depends on your exact problem. The towel method is a horrible way to fix a previous overheating, when the system is shut off after overheating the solder is in a state where it is almost molten and when it cools quickly it can crack or break contact with the board. Overheating it again with the towel heats the system so the contacts can re-attach themselves. You have a 50/50 shot at fixing it and a 50/50 shot of causing more damage. Do you feel lucky

The towel trick only fixes it temporarily, it will happen again eventually.
